For sale is one alpha revo 4000 in fantastic shape. Less than a year old. Only reason I'm selling is that I just got the silent partner aria in since the wise 2086 kept breaking on me. Please write to gfinger32@yahoo.com for details.

How much are you asking? This is what I'd planed on doing is getting either the revo or the axis and getting the 2086. How had you had the 2086? How long did it take to start malfuctioning? What were the malfuctions? How often did it malfuction?. What did you speak to Herb Wise or customer service? Did customer service attemp to fix the problems? Any information would be helpful.

Thanks

Ah ha... I read that over there. I'd spoke to Herb Wise and was considering purchasing an Alph minus the tension head and replacing it with a 2086. Even though I only plan on doing my racquets... I still want a decent machine that works. I have to string every week if I'm playing 3+ days a week. If my racquets are tenisioned at 69 - 70bls I might as well not play.

Dayum... I was pretty much set to pull the trigger on the 2086.. I have to hold off now...

you mean a decent electric machine or just a decent stringer overall? alpha is more than decent, i believe they are one of the top stringers. if you want electric, check with mark at alpha because I know they have a new machine coming that is cheaper than the equinox. If u got the cash, the equinox is probably a great machine. for something cheaper, I'd recommend the sp aria.

I think I spoke to Greg at Alpha and was attempting to get all but the tension head from either the Alph4000 or the Axis Pro. I was going to get the 2086 for the head.

Yeah, I've been checking out SP and MP (mutual Power) as well.
Wish I could spend 1.5K for a stringing machine. If I did that I wouldn't be able to play indoors for the winter.

The plan is to string only my racquets (2 racquets once a week) approx 8 times a month. I don't think I can get a cheap electric machine (I string my racquets at 70lbs) there maybe a durability issue. Most of the cheaper electric machines max out at 80lbs (ie. SP e.stringer FL, MP Hercules 650 89lbs max). I’ll give alpha a call again and see what they have coming out.

you sound as thought you are set on an electric machine. may I ask why? the revo goes well beyond 70lbs. if you gona string 8 rackets a month just for yourself, i would get the revo

I"m just worried/concerned about how much tenision is lost via not using a constant pull machine?

shug,
I think you need to understand the two systems more in depth. A crank or manual machine is generally regarded as having a difference of about anywhere from 5% to 10% less vs tension on electric machine. That means 60lbs on constant pull electric machine such as my aria, would be anywhere from 63lbs to 66lbs on a crank machine to make the results feel close to each other. Be warned though of these two points : 1)the machine the person that strings your rackets now may be miscalibrated and the tension you requested is not the tension in actuality 2) the 5-10% difference can vary widely and you need to experiment which is the best for you. Also note that using your high tensions, you are voiding the warranty on your rackets so it does not matter if you exceed the rackets specs by adjusting an additional 5%-10% for the crank difference. In your situation I would suggest a crank machine, you will find a tension you like and it can go up to 89lbs or so. Once your machine is calibrated right you might find that even the same tension as you are using now is plenty tight for you. There are other differences in machines that can make this difference in tensions even smaller or non existent. I would need to know more about your current stringer to make further assumptions. If you got the money, get one of the alpha or sp electric machines, otherwise get the revo or apex 2 if you want two knob mounting system. I feel very confident in recommending either of those companies. Hope this helps

The warnings you give are some of the main reasons I'm getting my own machine. I've been told "your poundage is out of spec, but I'll string per your request"... I get the racquet back and it is clearly not strung at 70. I've been refused because of my 70 lbs request. Plus as often as I'm going to string my racquets it will pay for itself in less than a year even if I got a $1200 - $1500 machine.

I've been well aware of the warranty on all my racquest since I started stringing out of spec. I"ve tried to play with my racquet strung at less... it just wasn't happening. I've been looking at a couple of Gamma machine with constant pull and a foot peddle. Both under 1K with constant pull and foot peddle.

Gamma X-es
Gamma ES II+

Since I do plan on playing for a while... I might as well get something I'll be happy with. Don't want to have to do the trade up thing...
