I'm happy to announce the addition of a brand new feature to the Stringforum.net website: The DT Database! :D

The DT Database (DT = dynamic tension) aims at collecting stringbed stiffness measurements under many different conditions. All important parameters that influence the stringbed stiffness are stored, like racquet model, string, tension, machine type, stringing method, time of measurement.

From the collected data you will be able to see how a change of each of the parameters influences the resulting stringbed stiffness. This will for example help you to determine the reference tension to string a given racquet at a given target DT value.

If you are the owner of an ERT device, a Stringway StringLab, a Babolat RDC, or a Pacific Multi Test Computer, please contribute to this collection!

Measurements can be linked to string reviews, providing additional objective information about the course of the tension loss. To add DT measurements to your existing string ratings, please go to "My Ratings (http://www.stringforum.net/myratings.php)" to edit your string ratings.

If you have any questions or suggestions concerning the DT Database, please post them here!

Check out the DT Database (http://www.stringforum.net/dtdb.php)

Jens,
What a great idea to collect this database! I noticed that you've developed empirical formulas to convert from RA and DA units into DT units. Any chance you could do the same to convert from stringbed frequency to DT units? I've been using FFT software on a PC using Marc's FREQMESS program and the free downloadable Audacity program, both of which use a microphone and the standard audio ports on a PC to measure the stringbed resonant frequencies. I've been using the raw frequency in Hertz of the stringbed as a quality control measure for years. It sure would be nice to be able to convert to DT units and contribute to your database . . . and also use it as a valuable resource. Thanks. - SW

Yes it should be possible to convert Freqmess frequencies to DT values. I will collect the necessary data during the summer season.

Thanks Jens, now I have another reason to look forward to summer. - SW

Jens,
Is it summer yet? Just wondering if you have had any luck collecting data for the frequency to DT conversion. Thanks. - SW

Not finished yet, I had to test hybrids during May and June, and hybrids are not the most reliable when it comes to frequency measurements... I will try to make the tests until the end of September.

Jens, If there's anything I can do to assist you in converting Freqmess units (Hertz) to DT units, I'd be more than happy to help. Thanks. - SW

Jens,
Looks like 2007 is coming to a close. I guess that a conversion formula to go from Freqmess frequencies to DT values probably won't happen this year. Is there a chance it will happen in 2008? Thanks. - SW

Sorry it didn't work out - I strung too few racquets this fall. I will keep collecting data.
Anyone who has an ERT and the necessary freqmess equipment can basically contribute some data. I will be happy to integrate it into the calculation.
