OK finally figured out how to calibrate the spring without a manual.

But I tried stringing 2 racquets (both 95 sq in) -- one a wilson n code six-one 95, the other a pro kennex ceramic prophecy II, and the machine damaged both racquets.

not major stuff mainly cosmetic, but I noticed that the MODEL D does not readily accept these size racquets (there is a steel bar that holds the
lower racquet mounting vice) which keeps the throat from fitting
properly, and there is a slight tilt to the racquet (appx 3 degrees).

so what happens is that no matter how tight i put the vice on, there is some play when a string pulls non perpenticular or parallel (i.e. not at 90 or 180 angles).

this results in the lower and upper mounting vice (which are METAL and not softer teflon or plastic Like todays modern vices) chipping into the hoop of the racquet, and the throat getting scratched up by the steel arm I decribed above.

Now when I string an OLDER prostaff or sting (the 85 sq in racquets) I have NO SUCH PROBLEMS!

I have heard that Ektelon made a Model D to Model H conversion kit, but....
to accomodoate the wide-body racquet, and I wonder if the wider frames used today (even for control -oriented racquets like the n-code six-one 95)
may not be stringable by the model D, which means my investment is worthless.

Also, can anyone recommend techniques for keeping the racquet safe from such damage. I tried Felt pads but that aggraveated the problem more.
I was thinking maybe strips of electric tape where the racquet contacted the steel templates.

Finally, please dont refer me to tennis machines. I have emailed them 4 times with this same question, even asking to buy a fix from them, and they dont answer. Calling is worse, with no one answering or getting a machine.

I am just trying to get this machine working so I can turn it over to the kids and they can begin stringing hassle free. I miss my old Alpha ... wish I hadn't left it on the east coast.

Thanks

The upgrades for Model D machines are no longer available, I understand. You might have to try to find an older Model F or H to handle modern frames.
