Hi everybody

I'm new to stringing, I'm about a 4.5 or 5 player. I usually break string 5 times per week... I have a tight budget, keep that in mind =)

I'm considering buying one of the following:

Gamma X-2 $135
Mutual Power hercules 680 $280
Silent Partner e.Stringer $279
Silent Partner Swing $200

What would you advice? Is the Gamma X-2 good enough? I read some really bad stuff about 2 point mount machines, does the racket suffer? How different is flying clamps from fixed clamps?

Thanks for your help, this site is great

Best regards,
Pablo

I would probably go for the X-2 because 1) it is the cheapest b) they have a good reputation for customer support, and III) they are known to be durable. Hope this helps.

I like fixed clamps much more than flying clamps. If you ever come across a fan pattern or widely spaced strings that a flying clamp is too narrow for, you'll wish you had flying clamps.

If you break strings that often, the stringer will quickly pay for itself, so you might as well get a good one. Crank tensioners are quicker than dropweights and may save you time in the long run. Resale value of stringers is very good, so it's a great investment.

G'day pablo

If you do break a string 5 times a week? and you have a tight budget you would be mad not to string yourself. buy a good machine with fixed clamps you will pay it off in no time, plus make some coin on the way.

P.S try Kevlar or Polly on the mains if you are a chronic string breaker;)
