Hey,

I'm having trouble taking the 2 weights apart for the Alpha Pioneer DC Plus-- the hex wrench provided fits perfectly but I nor my friends are able to take it apart.

Is it a brute force job or is there some technique to it?

Thanks,
Enelight

Why would you need to unless you are doing Badminton frames ?

I'm stringing squash racquets-- and I need 28-30 lbs.

Enelight612, This hex head screw can be difficult to remove as you have found. The factory installs the screw tight and dry, plus there is the potential for some corrosion, although I am not sure of the corrosion source. I recommend a strap wrench to secure the weight (a vice with protection could also be used) and an extension for your hex key, for more leverage. Be patient and it will break free. Make sure you clean the blind threaded hole and screw and use a little lubricant (light grease or oil) and it will be easy to remove in the future.

Good luck!

Got it! Took a LOT of brute strength.

for any future users who have trouble: get an extension, such as a base of a screwdriver with custom switchable heads. Most of those have a hex base to fit custom heads onto.

Adding a bit of lube doesn't hurt-- and let it sit for a day or so (just so it can try to seep down into the bolt). Insert the black knob so you have some leverage to hold the weights in position, and get a hammer and wack at that hex wrench a good number of times.

It's tough but doable. If all fails, I believe alpha will send you one that they took apart, but that's unnecessary shipping costs and time wasted.
