Spring Tensioner Replacement

I have an Alpha Axis stringer just like Joe's. Is there a suggested "life" of the spring tensioner? When should it be replaced?

An Alpha representative said that the spring inside the crank tensioner should last 10 to 15 years. I don't know if you can buy the spring and replace it yourself.
