Has anyone tried the Roddick no back swing approach, I always thought I had a pretty decent serve but after watching and listening I changed my serve and everyone wants to know what I've done, It's funny :o I now hit the second serve as hard as the first. No more wimpy second serves. :D

Pros have been teaching the dropped elbow technique for a few years now, partly due to the high number of shoulder injuries in kids when they learn to serve. The "back scratch" position was destroying rotator cuffs. We dont even teach topspin serves to kids until their upper bodies are pretty developed. another advantage of the dropped elbow, is that it creates alot of torque, and you can really explode into the ball, unlike with the back scratch, by the time you make contct with the ball, you're losing momentum.

Dogboy...here is the 1,000,000 question...you say that you hit your 2nd serves as hard as your first...but what % of them go in?

:( Sorry Jay I didn't get back sooner I've been away for awhile, but I find when I'm serving like this and most of my first serves are coming in, when I do have to hit a second serve my confidence is up and the ball goes in, now if I double more than 2 or 3 time in my match, it's odd. If the 1st isn't coming in most of the time, confidence is down and I take a little off the second until the confidence comes back up again and then keep on cracking the serves.
You ever had this happen, ( I should have listen to Vic Braden) The 2 times you play your best is when your sick and haven't played for awhile, you come back and play like a madman or you break a string and borrow someone racquet and all of a sudden you can't miss a shot and of course ya have to go out and buy one of these racquet only to find out you really suck with it cause its yours now.(ya I did this, $160 down the drain) Vic says because all the pressure is off you, you don't expect to play good and wow...everything seems to come in. If inly that mentallity could be taught heh?
