I have one on my Alpha Apex and it's one of the best upgrades for the price out there. It does everything they say it does, is very easy to install and has never given me a hint of a problem in the 2 years I've had it. If you have a crank machine that you like, this is a no brainer, IMO.

It looks like a great idea, but for $495 + 39 for the pedal, plus tax and shipping, I'm not sure it would be truly worth while.

I don't know of a cheaper way to get a linear pull electronic machine. I don't like the rotational units that are cheaper than this price point. Much like gut, price does matter in electronics.

The Wise 2086 is a solid unit. Best bang for the money out there. Just make sure that your existing stringer can handle the additional tension of a constant pull machine. The inventor, Herb Wise, is great and the staff provides great customer service. If you have a solid crank machine then take the plunge and get one. I string over 500 frames a year with it with no problems.

wow sweet combo im just about to get a wise , because i do about a 420 rackets a year im head stringer for 2 clubs , 2 squash , 2 tennis and on a pro pro spring i find of the squash the quality is not so accurate and a good player can tell difference of around 1lbs , and ill easily make up the money plus it saves me prestrtches agaisnt out antique table , it self calibrates, constant pull on or off it simply does everything, im so excited about it.
are there even any downsides to it?

Downey, Pros Pro's clamps & clamp base could cause premature string breakage. I use to have two Eagnas (Pros Pro) stringers. I had to sell both of them due to the fact that the clamp bases & clamps could not handle the constant pull feature of the Wise 2086. If your clamp bases are not worn out or if you have upgraded your clamps then you should not have any issues.
but the trade place i get it from.. sells the head only.. or the head with a tabletop .. which is the same as mine now.. i constantly tighten the clamps and clean them.. and im a very good stringer.. so its should stack up to it .. if not ill send it back on warranty and get a new one. How did you eagnas.. the us pro's pro ? not cope with the wise? im getting the wise anyway.. so i guess ill see if i have to get new mounts etc..
also i wouldnt use the.. constant pull i would keep the slight variation in tension as everyone i string for likes it. or unless the require CP. or are you talking generally about the tensioning?

Downey, just to be sure, go ahead and contact Herb Wise (inventor). He can tell you if you might run into problems. My Eagnas (Pros Pro) was quite warn out when I installed the Wise 2086. If you have kept your stringer in tip top condition then you should not have any problems at all.
My old Eagnas clamps and clamp base was just too warn out even though I did clean them on a regular bases. The Wise 2086 itself is fantastic. I would recommend it to anyone.
Go ahead and get it and let me know what ya think of it. Good luck.
i have just got the wise.
:D so nice.
I've ordered one. I can't wait.......

Post some pics. I would love to check out your set up.
I Had a Wise mounted on a new Eagnas model, (Comet 11) an Alpha Apex clone.
The Wise kept breaking poly's and I realized it was because the Wise was
"scoring or slicing" the string and it would break when the "scored" section of the string was stretched @ the frame. I thought the jaws ware bent. I called Herb and he suggested I remove the jaws, put them on a hard, flat surface and hit them with a hammer. I thought that rather peculiar. I told Herb I didn't feel comfortable with that solution but I would replace the defective jaws with new ones if he would please send them.
His response was "we will gladly service your unit to our specifications and send it back you. I first need to inform you that our warranty service is at least 8 weeks out for new services repairs".
My thought was, if Herb was fine with me removing the bent jaw and beating w/a hammer, why would he not just send me new jaws to swap myself? hmmmm!!!!
I sent the 2086 back for repairs.
I monitored the shipping via a tracking #.
I didn't hear from Herb, so I called him a week after he signed for the unit. He told me that "my service technicians found your unit to be defective, have made the repairs and I will ship it back in a few days".
Interesting !!!!!!
1-Herb was fine with me taking out the jaws, banging them with a hammer but he wasn't cool with sending me good jaws to replace myself.
2-He told me service would be at least 8 weeks out. I called him 1 week after he signed for the returned unit, he said it was determined to be defective, fixed and would be returned in a few days, not 8 weeks.
I told him to keep his machine and please credit my CC in full. He sent me a check.
This was just the final issue I had with Herb in a long list of minor things.
Conclusion: Herb Wise is one of the most arrogant people Ive ever met.
Although he has a fine unit, I probably would never buy.
Lets just say I had a much more enjoyable buying experience with Eagnas than Wise. Hhhmmm..... Go figure.
I kept the SP-DG I was trying to replace.

I have found that the jaws on my unit are not bent but I have to watch the angle when I insert the string. The gripper will not close on the front half of of the string leading to slippage, which I could see leading to a shear break with poly. I personally have not had that problem, just what I feel is excessive ghosting on multi's.
