I was stringing racquets for my first time with my ATS Super Stringer II and my head i.s2's tension range is 54 +/- 5lbs. I tried stringing it at about 58 but i saw TONS of distortion, like 3/4th of an inch probably in frame compression. I lowered the tension to like 55lbs and if it came to clamping a string off with the tension bar a little less than horizonal or a little more, i always went with a little less. I still have slight distortion in the racquet frame. Anyone else had problems with this, or any suggestions as to what i could do to alleviate some of this?

Hi,

you shouldn't have any troubles with "permanent" racket distortion, even when stringin the Ti S2 at 60 lbs.

A small amount of distortion during the stringing process is normal, but never at the end !

Maybe you have a problem with the racket head fixation.

The racket should be fixed, so that it just can't move within the fixation before starting to string.

When stringing it is possible that you get a little bit "space" at a racket fixation (usually at 6 or 12 o'clock) because of a temporary frame distortion, but as said before, this is normal.

But the racket as a whole should never move during the stringing process !

The frame may be slipping in the frame hold down clamps. Try using some old grip material on the surfaces where the racquet touches the machine at the head and throat. Put the sticky side down with the rubberized material touching the frame. Also, make sure you are using the correct frame adapters and that they are just touching the frame on the inside bottom of the frame when you tighten the hold downs.
