Hey i have an idea everyone...lets all get together somewhere and play a tournament. Round Robin or single elimination, doesnt matter. Can we crash at your place JayCee? I might get thrown out of your house though after i kick your butt on the court. You'll be so intimidated when i take my freshly strung racquets out of their plastic bags you wont know what to do! haha. I think this could be an oppurtunity for us here on the board to bond. after the tournament, we go drink and celebrate...anyone else?

I told you all that this guy is full of surprises, un-real he evens imagines that I would compete with him in a competion that I couldn't win.

No way Jaypro, i got nowhere to go on that one. :(

Stringin' and drinkin' beer where-ever and when-ever you want to, but, no way you're goin' to get a chance to may a fool of me on a tennis court. Tough mate, real tough . . . :D :D :D

I am surprised by your comment JayCee. it would in no way be my intention to make a fool of you on the court (hey if it happened it would only be a bonus haha) but i thought it would be a fun, friendly competition for all of us. but i wont argue on the stringing and beer drinking, that sounds just fine :)

For an American, you've sure got me fooled.

Friendly competition  What the hell is that

Any competition has a winner and a loser, and losing to you would be :

So let's stick to drinking beers. ;)

Not sure I understand your 1st sentence....do you mean Americans are very competitive? I am trying to be nice here JayCee, of course there has to be a winner and a loser, and beating you would be :D but sure, i can stick to drinking beers also ;)

There was a French guy (de Coubertin) who re-started up the Olympic Games a bit over 100 years ago, and he said that the most important thing was to "participate" in the games.

The Americans have spent over 100 years doing their utmost to prove the contrary, the most important is to WIN. This is part of the American culture, you play to WIN. Even the Aussies say "there's no prize for the 2nds." :p

Just to finish this subject when the Americans won the 1st edition of what became "The America's Cup" (a yaught race that they won and they kept the Cup for 132 years), the English Queen Victoria asked the Commodore at which place did the English boat finish, his reply was "there is only one winner" which meant that any other place was unimportant.

So Jaypro, even if it is not an American exclusivity, in my opinion there is only one place worth fighting for, and you ? :p

I agree 100% JayCee, I have been a competitive player for 20 years and it was indoctrinated into me at a very young age that the only place to be was 1st place. Americans are very competitive, but have you been to a European or South American soccer game lately?

Thats the problem today, sport has been divided into two categories :
- Players, and
- Spectaters

Unfortunately the players all want to be winners, and have real problems with losing, and the spectaters are even worse, it's frightening. :(

That is why all sports have become totally STAR orientated and the average "participating" sportsman is becoming past history. That is part of the drama of our existance in this century. Kids prefer to play football and tennis on a PS.2 or a PC rather than get outside and do it for real.

It sucks.

I have a 12 yr old nephew who thinks he is a good athlete because he wins every game of baseball and basketball on his ps2...its pathetic. I teach tennis for a living, you'de think the kid would want to learn how to play...nope! he parks his butt in front of the tv, computer, or ps2 and he's happy as hell...its sad...you're right JayCee its the culture we live in

I'll volunteer to string for the tournament. I'm a 3.0 on a good day, so I'll make sure that your frames are up to snuff.

You're already in trouble. I don't drink coffee. It has to be OJ, Honey Nut Cheerios and for the caffeine buzz, chocolate covered espresso beans (delicious and available at Starbucks). I'll bring an inflatable mattress...beats a cot.

Actually, Jake's my agent. :p

Gas station i wish, i'd be rich. What surface would this tournament be held on. Ive never played on clay so that could be interesting.
Jay Pro what club do you work at and where is it. Might go down east this summer, a challenge match could be good.
