Wilson Kobra Tour

Tennis Warehouse:

Headsize 100
Length 27"
Weight 11.4 oz
8 pts head light

Wilson:
Headsize 100
Length 27"
Weight 11.5 oz
7 pts head light

Printed on the racquet:
Headsize 100
Length 27"
Weight 10.9 oz
10 pts head light

I had to add a significant amount of lead tap under the grip to get it to 11.8, as well and a bit at 3,9 to get the balance closer to spec. I did change the stock leather to a cushion grip(I weighed the cushion grip at .7), but I bet I had to wrap about 25" of lead tape to get it to 11.8

Do they make different versions of the same frame or what?

This particular racquet I actually bought from a local major chain sportings good store. Usually I buy from TW, but how could all 3 sources be so different? I guess I find it irritating. How are you supposed to know what you're actually buying?

I've read that Wilson has the greatest discrepancy between identical models of their racquets, as much as half an ounce. Of course when I bought a few Wilson racquets at the Racket Doctor where they have scales the customer can use, the first three I grabbed were all pretty damn near 11.75 oz. Go figure.

I think TW's specs are based on a average sampling of a few racquets but I can't promise that as I think I read that somewhere.

I have six racquets, all by a company I won't name but it sounds like Milson, and while they are "in the ballpark" I've had to do some customizing to make them match.

Perhaps that company KNOWS we need some alibis and is building them in for us.

Please don't tell my rep, Cheez

ArchEtech,

The weight given by Tennis Warehouse is the strung weight of the racket. The weight printed on the Wilson racket is the unstrung weight. I just weighed a forty foot roll of 16 gauge nylon string and it weighed about 18gms or about 0.6oz.

The same goes for the balance. An unstrung racket will be more headlight than a strung racket.
