View Full Version : why do racquets sometimes end up with a tinny sound?
Hi,
I've been re-stringing racquets and sometimes the racquet ends up with a real tin-ny sound when it strikes the squash ball - and the racquet feels dead.
In this common and if so what is the cause.
Regards.

@Grinder
Sounds like the stringing tension was too high. Which kind of string did you use?
It was mulit-filament string with a plastic sheath. Nothing unique.
It's funny the mains are under tensioned if anything - and the crosses seem to have a lot more tension on them but i didn't chance the rig in anyway.
I've felt this before but it's disappeared after a few plays with the racquet as the tension has equalled across the racquet. I hope this happens with this one.

Hello Gavin,
Frame distortion could also be the cause of the dead feeling. What racquet type and tension/s did you use?
In my experience a squash racquet is most likely to distort by elongating, whereas tennis racqets, I believe, are most likely to crush if distortion occurs during the stringing process. The fact you believe the crosses seem tighter should be a cause for concern.

Andrew.
