Stringing machine help

Hi everyone, I am new. I use a dropweight stringing machine, it is a random make, but pretty good for what I need. The problem I have is that the string clamp, the one that frips the string to tension it off is not working anymore. It works fine with thick gauge string, but as soon as I use a 16 l or thinner string the string gripper fails to securely hold the string and as a result it is almost impossible to get the weight to sit horizontally.

Any help or advice would be truly welcomed

If cleaning the working surfaces of the clamp with alcohol does not improve the situation, you might try disassembling the clamp and roughening up the working surfaces with fine sandpaper. Roughen in one direction only-perpendicular to the path of the string. Hope that helps.
