Hi all,

Im just about to start competitive club tennis again

I've kept playing over the years but only against freinds and in the summer months, I have used this forum to get advice about what strings are best for my play.

Basically i wanted some impartial advice from people in the know with the new ranges from the last 3-Years of rackets.

As i love my Yonex Rd-7's and have used these rackets for the last 12 years,

Im not going to get rid off them, but I would like another racket in my armoury.

I play a mostly baseline game, with a reasonable amount of top spin and I would say I have a medium amount of power

I dont mind buying a second hand racket would just like the something slightly different to the Yonex,

Any suggestions most appreciated

Cheers Andy

You should try the last generation Fischer Pro One models. You can find them new for $50.00 - $80.00 USD and they are similar to your RD-7s but still different. They are great racquets for the topspin baseliner. Soft, open pattern for spin, great feel and control and a little wider at the hoop for just a little extra oomph. Plus their quality control was second to none. I would have bought a bunch but unfortunately if my dog was as ugly as the graphics, I'd shave his butt and teach him to walk backwards.

Andy, the latest edition of Tennis magazine has an excellent overview of the latest Hybrid racquets. I'm a huge fan of this hybrid trend. My Head Mojo falls into this category, and since switching to it 2 years ago my game has progressed by leaps and bounds. Most of these sticks fall in around 100 square inches and offer a really nice balance of features. Like you I joined my first USTA league last season and wanted the benefit of the latest technology. I already had my stick, but needed to take a more serious look at strings. I absolutely love my Mojo with 17gauge Technifibre Black Code Spin Mains @ 62lbs. with Head ZoPower 17gauge crosses @ 60lbs. I'm sure you will want to try some racquets, but don't forget the effect of strings on your old stick. I'm evermore amazed at how different my stick is with different strings and tensions.

Gerwalk I will have alook at the fischer range and see if I can be swayed,
but by what you say they seem to be in the right area for me.

Mojoman thanks for reply, I have had a few changes on the strings, I just feel i want something new,

On one I have Luxilon Alu Big Banger on mains and guts sorry am unsure what tension was set at.

and on the other I have a weaved head string(black and white) and a something like a poly ??? cant remember the name of the other, this racket gives me a lot more top spin and control but no where near as much power.

sorry for the non technical jargon, im sure it will improve as I immerse myself in the club games. and need to re-string more often.

by your description of your game pure drive would be fine and give you more power
