While I do not have an exact answer to your question,
I observed stringers fixing one end of the string to a pole
and pulling with a tweezer from the other end.
Now, that is not a very exact procedure ...
pls read the articles posted in the thread on Gut: pre-stretching here.
Two very experienced stringers here in Montreal told me that they prefer NOT
to prestretch **the gut** because:
- it deadens the feel (you might as well use synthetics)
- it damages part of the fibers
The same might be valid for synthetics.
One of them worked 7yrs ago for Sampras and Agassi, the other
strings during Tennis Masters Series here.
Now, on the other side, Babolat recommends prestreching. Your call.
I found that non-prestretched gut is more playable.
The advantage of prestretching seems to be related to better keeping of
the tension after the stringing.

It is....the only thing is to know "which" type of string do you intend to pre-stretch...to make things easier to understand...almost all of the multi-filaments play better, althought for a shorter time, with pre-stretching...but it is useless, if not detrimental, do the same on a nylon or poly string...especially on today's VEEEERY stiff frames, especially "club" type frames.
However, add info on your style and "weapon", and I'll give ya an advice...if you wish, of course.. ;) :)
Ciao...

I've seen string stretcher tools at www.eagnas.com (http://www.eagnas.com) in the stringing tools link. Anybody know how this device work?
