View Full Version : Stringing a Head I prestige Racquet 600 - Mid size

Hi

Can anyone tell me whether it is advisable to string this particular racquet using 1 piece or two piece. Bear in mind this is the Mid (Smaller Head) version.

Reason I ask is that two different professional restringers have restrung it using one piece. I'm sure they are not lazy, since they always string my other racquets (Mid plus) using two piece.

The string pattern is 18/20 and I think there are 8 holes in the throat, so from the instructions, I believe I need to use 2 pieces.

Any thoughts?

Thanks
Rob

head recommend two piece for most of the i- range including the prestige; some stringers have an illogical but profound dislike of two piece for whatever reason and will string 'around the world' in order to avoid 2 piece stringing but still start the crosses from the top, which avoids undue stress on the frame and might therefore still qualify as professional stringing. One could take the view that stringing according to the manufacturer's specification is more professional ... and if you did then i'd agree with you but the main thing is whether the frame is safe or not :)

Ok guys

I strung the I Prestige (2 Piece) with Luxilon Alu Power Rough strings. I set the main and cross strings to 56lbs. I tied all final strings before the tie off knots at 4-5 lbs higher to accomodate loss in tension.

Now After playing 2-3 hours, the tension started to decrease. I could actually feel the tension loss compared to the first time hitting with the racquet. I'm quite sure the string is not slipping through the clamps or anything since the string tension remained consistent for the first 3 hours.

I'm just wondering, when you string a racquet at a certain tensions, are you supposed to increase the tension at all to accomodate for this loss of tension in the future? If so, how much extra should I increase this tension by? So say, a friend of mine ask for his racquet restrung at 57lbs, is it good practise to increase this tension at all? What is the recommended tension incrase I should perform?

Thanks
Rob

Its not uncommon for strings to slacken during the first 24 hours or so after stringing and/or following the initial couple of hours hitting with the racquet. The amount of tension loss will vary with the type of string used, the initial tension applied during stringing and how hard you are hitting the ball (hence some professional players change to 'fresh' racquets during matches to retain the same feel from the strings).

Options are to adjust the initial tension somewhat to achieve the correct eventual 'settled down' tension, or to assume that people were happy with their eventual tension last time they asked for 57 pounds and will be this time once the strings have 'adjusted'.
