View Full Version : getting faster
i just timed myself and it was my fastest time so far...40 minutes. I want to be able to do 1 in uder a 1/2 hour. anyone have any time saving tips? Ive seen guys thread all the mains 1st, then tension them, is that faster than 1 at a time? Ide say it probably is. how do i do that?

Hi,
to tension nearly all the mains at once would result in a huge tension loss !
Of course does it save time that's the reason why some shops get all the mains in and tension them with 40 kp...
But you won't get anywhere near your desired tension...
Time saving tipps later.
Bye
That's not exactly what Jaypro was on about Hawkeye2, there is no problem with putting the mains in place, then starting from the middle and tightening the mains one after the other, two left, two right, two left, two right etc. etc.
Personally I don't think that it is any faster, probably isn't, but you have less loose string around the racquet when you start tensionning. If you do one piece stringing, this can be an advantage, especially for the long side, but for the short side it doesn't make sense. ;)
Jaypro is bent on doing ONE piece stringing so it may be something for him to use, me, I prefer TWO pieces so I never put in all the mains before tensionning them (it takes about than 5 minutes to put in the mains for a 16 mainstring racquet and about 2 minutes more for one with 18 mains, not much time to be gained here.)
Thanks Hawkeye, But i was talking about just threading them, then tensioning 1 at a time, Like JayCee said. As far as 1 piece stringing, I am not "bent" on it, its just what i have learned to do, thats all. I havent seen anyone do a 2 piece job before, once i learn how to do a 2 piece job maybe i'll like it better. I'de like to learn anyway so when i want to string with hybrid strings, i can.

@Jaypro
Sorry, then I misunderstood your question.
I was just afraid that you might try to tension all the mains at once to save time...
To get faster you need first of all practice.
Have all the tools ready, avoid distraction (TV, but music is ok).
Always keep the end of the string in one hand so you don't have to search for it every time.
Ho do you wave through the cross strings ?!
Maybe there's some time saving potential...
Bye
i have to have a Yankee game on while i string!! I dont watch the game but i do listen so i dont think its a distraction. my weaving is pretty slow right now cpmpared to my friends. he weaves through a section in no time, hardly moving his fingers while i labor through each main 1 by 1 haha. i try to keep the string as loose as possible when i weave, with 1 hand on top, the other under the racquet using my index fingers to weave. I'll get faster (hopefully) any time saving tips anyone?
