View Full Version : Damaged Grommet

I have just recently started stringing my own racquets and noticed one of my racquets strung at my pro shop had some clear plastic tubes in the grommets to protect the strings. I could put in new grommets, but it seems excessive for only a couple worn ones.

Could someone tell me:

- what they are called?
- where to get them (I tried tennis-warehouse, but I must have typed in the wrong name in the search)?
- and the best way to put them in?

Thanks!

SirPetra,

Check the RAB site, as far as I know they are the only suppliers of replacement grommet systems, which are excellent and every good stringer should have a few packs of the most usual sizes of single grommets. You should also buy the 2 grommet grinders which gives you the means to remove cleanly the worn or damaged grommets and even to enlargen the hole in the frame if you want to replace the grommet with a larger sized grommet (for example to use this place to tie a knot).

Usually finding the right replacement grommet strips for each racquet is quite a problem, especially for older frames, often only 1 or 2 single grommets need to be replaced, just as SirPetra has noted, in this case the RAB replacement grommet system is the perfect solution.

Hope you find a local distributer, if not you will find them on the GSS site in their selection of "Stringer's tools". ;)

@SirPetra
I guess the plastic tubes you mentioned are referred to as "string tubing" which is either made of Nylon or Teflon, and you should be able to get it at any good stringing equipment shop.
Tennis Warehouse carries Nylon Tubing: http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/descpage-TUBING.html

Please let Jay Cee and me know which piece information you were looking for. :)

I was looking for the information on the "string tubing", but thanks Jay Cee for the replacement grommet information. I didn't even know you could do that. (Shows how new I am :) ) I might choose that as an option as well. Thanks also for letting me know where to get the hardware.
