Does everyone use the brake on the machine all the time when string touches the clamp, or just in certain circumstances . Sometimes it just does not feel right when putting string under tension when brake is on. any help would be great , thanks sion

I only use the brake for stringing the dreaded Wilson Rollers and when I straighten the strings with an awl.

It's not necessary to use the brake when pulling tension or clamping off. The turntable should be allowed to turn freely. This reduces friction between the string and the grommet hole. I mostly use the brake when I am tieing the knots or straightening the strings. Occasionally I'll use it when the turntable wants to spin when I'm weaving the crosses.
