Is there any secret to tying off poly. Compared to other strings its very hard to get enough tension between knot and clamp. When i release clamp on last main it slips ever so slightly and can graze the string.

This is a chronic problem and nearly impossible to avoid, especially with single action clamps. Another reason I like double action clamps. With a DA clamp, you can release the base first, then the upper clamp. The slippage is minimized by the base moving first with the upper clamp still engaged. Then when you disengage the upper clamp, the slip is tiny and the grazing of the string is minimal because most of the movement happened when the base was released.

I don't know of any way to avoid this completely.

That's interesting.
I was taught and always do, release the bottom clamp first and then the top.
When clamping, I always clamp the string first and then the base. When releasing, always the opposite way. Is that the best practice method for DA fixed clamps.
cheers,

As David said, release the base first, then the clamp head on DA clamps. I also use my parallel jaw pliers or starting clamp to hold the knot snug while I release the clamp. These keeps it from moving back too far into the grommet hole when the clamp is released.

Yep, that's the best practice for DA clamps!

thanks for the info guys , i release the clamps the same as you . For some reason i have got into a habit of releasing the top clamp first on the tie offs.
