Very nice site. It helped me a lot in chosing a machine and strings to use. I only wish the forum would get more traffic - it's a great source of info for beginners like myself.

Thanks and keep up the good work.

Hi Mike,

Welcome to our community, great to have you on board.

Good comments, but between you and me, its not only a great source of info for beginners, but also for old stringers (like yours truly) as well. The tennis string world is changing every day, at last players are starting to realise that strings are the most important part of their material.

Racquet manufacturers have been trying to convince us, ever since wood was dropped about 30 years ago, that everthing is in the frame. Unfortunately several generations of players have lived under the cult of the raquette and have largely ignored the role of the string, most players bought (borrowed or begged) what ever the could get their hands on and considered that as long as they had a "great stick" then the string didn't matter.

Top players today do not underestimate the importance of the racquet, but they definitely pay far more attention to the qualities of the strings. The choices of tensions, which are now the basis of the "fine tuning" of their racquets for the specific conditions in each tournament, have become an indispensible part of the success of every pro player.

So Mike, we all have a lot to learn, the recognition of the quality of a good string job by good players (who can feel and appreciate the difference) is the first step to self improvement and can lead even a home stringer to be very proud of his work.

This site is an incredible source of information, both technical and emotional, the huge number of opinions expressed by so many different players and stringers can help us to break out of our relative isolation and to see what other people, who also live their tennis passion, can feel about our ideas, answer our questions and encourage us to find better solutions.

What is great is the fact that the "posters" on this forum have no other interest other than to share their experiences and their passion with anyone that feels inclined to do the same thing.

I agree with you entirely on "the lack of traffic on the forum" it is a pity that of all the "readers" who visit the site, relatively few make the effort to participate actively, I was like them for years, one day I took a couple of minutes to log-in, and now I really feel that I am part of a very privileged family, so if any of you "readers only" are hestitatng, if you are tempted to join our discussion board, there are lots of people like you who are genuinely interested in what you have to say.

So get off your butt(s), log-in, and tell us what the hell you've got on your minds, and don't worry about making a fool of yourself, we are just going to tell you to log-out if you make too many mistakes, or, if you are willing to learn, we can try to help you to be better.

Here is a thought for you all, it has kept me company for years and I repeat it to myself everytime that I just don't seem to succeed (fairly often!) :

" He who is motivated will find the way, if not he will find an excuse"

When I start giving excuses, the first thing I do is question my real motivation. My best advice is that if you are not motivated, don't do it, you will probably cock it up anyway and try to find an excuse.

PS. Hey Dirk, how about a follow up opinion on this one, your comments are always appreciated. J.C.

At first, You need to make a webpage with the picture want to post. (or see)
And make sure to size your picture 100px X 100px.
Then go to Your Profile, add picture link in Avatar (URL):
If you don't have a webpage, email me the picture you want to post, I will be happy to make you a picture page on my website.
Hope that help.
;)
