I just published the guidelines for tennis string evaluation. It's a form including explanations on the criteria to observe when testing a tennis string. You can print it out and take it with you on the court so you can immediately write down your impressions.
I put as much as possible on two pages without sacrificing clarity. Please feel free to make suggestions for any changes.

Here's the direct link to the PDF: http://www.stringforum.net/guidelines.pdf

You need Adobe Acrobat Reader version 5 or later to open the document.

Heh, heh, heh.... you bastard.... for the past few years I've been keeping my own log on the various strings I've tried... that was the main reason why I got my own stringer, and learned how to string, was so I could evaluate different strings to find what works best for me with out having to pay the big bucks for the string job so often.

I've just got a sheet of lined paper with the date of the string job, the type of string, gauge and was it easy to string. Then I write in notes about power, spin, durability, etc. Nobody can decipher my writing, but then nobody else would really care about my string notes anyway....

And now Mr. High-Faluten comes out with a professional looking string evaluation form.... well organized, complete, looks good.... and you just expect me to go and copy all my notes to the new form.... don't you....

Well Mr.... I'm gonna do it.... but I ain't happy about it. You know, there's something good about simple times and simple ways... even if the simple ways look like... well... they look like crap and nobody can read it. I'll use your new fancypants sheets.... sure, I'll use em.... but I'll be damned if I'm gonna leave em out in the open now where anyone else can read my hard begotten gains.

Damn you Joe and your fancy little computer ways.... damn you.....

:D ;) :p

P.S. - I'm gonna take some white-out and white-out the header on the forum, and write instead "Mike's Personal String Evaluation Form which he drew-up freehand with no help or input from computer "geniuses" on certain Tennis Web Sites like Stringforum.net..... heh, heh, heh.... that'll teach ya......

Shit Mike,
That's the best posting on this Forum since Jason has been participating here. It's great to see that your computer is up and working again, let's hope that you'll find the time to let us know about some of your findings. :o

Have a real big one on me. :p
Bye,

Hey Joe,

You could probably get a good job with the French Government. If I send them a copy of your String Evaluation Forms, they could well be inspired to have another look at the Income Tax Declaration forms, or even the Claims Return Forms for Social Security. One way or another they could probably find a job for you. ;)

Never-the-less, it does make me think about all the different things that need to be considered if I want to give a good evaluation for a string, but I could easily be discouraged when I get to filling in the details on the form. :p

Joe, can you seriously imagine guys like Jaypro and me filling out one of your "Tax Return Forms" - we'd have to learn to read and write to do all that. For once I agree with Jaypro, his evaluations are much more simple, and straight to the point, for example :
< If it's a top brand it's great for you mate, trust me, you should put this stuff in your stick, I'll even string it ATW for you personally for end of the day, and . . . I'll deliver it to you in an "Authentic Pro Plastic Bag" > :D

But, there again for someone like Mongolmike (who has already proven that he is in no way a mongol), you appear to have found a great admirer for your talents, there may be thousands like him out there. :D :D

So my friend, great job, impressive result, I am sure that it will help some of us sort out our ideas when evaluating a string. Please just don't ask me to fill one in.

Thanks,

lol... no fear Jay Cee... I log in just about every day and read just about every new post.... I'm up on all the new posters and their new ideas.... I really do enjoy the site, I just don't often have a lot to add or ask. I'm a simple man, with simple needs... and now, suddenly I find I have a boat-load of FREAKIN' PAPERWORK TO DO!!!!!

So even if you don't see me post often, know thee that I am here, reading and learning more often than not.

But for now... I'm very, very busy....freakin' paper pushin' bureaucrats.......

Well come on guys, you really mean it's too much work to fill out that simple form?
BTW Mike you can use your old notes as long as you can "translate" them to the way the string ratings are structured here on the website and submit your DAMN experiences ;) :D
