View Full Version : Use of tennis awl when making tie off's
Should you use the tennis awl to hold tension on the string when tieing knots? I have seen videos of just using the flying clamps to hold tension while making tie offs. Is there a proper method?
thanks; DrSpin
I still have the awl in my stringing guide but it's better for the string and racquet not to use it (while on the other hand it's still the best method to prevent tension loss right where it originates on the tie-offs :p )
So, the better method is to increase tension on the last 2-3 strings before the tie-off by 4-6 lbs, clamping close to the frame and tying off while making sure to minimize the slack between knot and clamp.
To equalize the tension on the outer mains after tie-off, alternatingly push on the outer mains with your fingers.
