View Full Version : Newbie/Advanced user
When I make a post, i noticed that under my name I see Newbie and the line under that says Advanced user
What do these 2 different notations mean?
And secondly, how do you become an advanced user on the board?

Hi Hans,
yes it's a bit confusing, I will see if I can simplify that. The first title is fixed (set by the Admin) and the second title changes with the number of posts. Unfortunately, since the pure number of posts does not necessarily reflect the level of experience, I kept the first title also and change it when I think it's justified.
Ok,
I agree with you on that. Number of posts is surely not the criteria to see the difference between an advanced user or a newbie.
Maybe you can use the first title (set by admin) and change it when you think it's justified as you say but use Newbie, regular user (?) and advanced user?
I surely don't consider myself as an advanced user, but newbie seems also a bit off so maybe something in between could fit people like me who do some home stringing but are not advanced users like shop owners and professional stringers.
And maybe the second title (now based on number of posts) could be used to indicate if the person is a home stringer, shop owner, tournament stringer or something like that. This way it is more clear to the board readers from which group of people the advice comes from.
Just my thoughts...
Regards,
Hans
Hans, Joe,
I think Admin should also have the options of substance or habitual to cater for all the certifiable candidates around here :D
Seriously though, I like the idea that the admin rating would be based on the usefulness of contributions and whether an individual posts mainly questions or answers. Encourage more people to take a few risks and share their knowledge.
Why not make the second title a selectable option from the users profile with default as "undefined". A self-assessment if you like and I expect most people will give an accurate view.

Thanks for your input, guys. The user ranking based on the number of posts is definitely superfluous (# of posts is still visible) and I will replace it by a custom title which every user can set individually on his own. I will also think about more appropriate user titles for the admin rating.
Great idea,
and anyway, even without your changes this is still THE most interesting forum on stringing on the Internet... :D
Hans
Thanks Hans
So I made some changes. Every user now has a field "Custom Title" in his profile. You can put there whatever you want, e.g. whether you're a stringing pro, stringing beginner, tennis freak, volley god or whatever.
To edit your profile, please go to the start page of the discussion board and click on the "User CP" link on top of the page. Then choose "Edit Profile".
Works for me -
Cheers,
kwick

That's another nice thing about this board, it's big enough to get great responses, but small enough to adapt to keen suggestions. Good job!
@Mike
Nice custom title! ;)
Suggestions are always welcome!
