Hello all,

I play with a Head iPrestige MP and have had some problems with the butt cap on three racquets. Essentially what happens is that the staples holding the cap onto the handle become loose. Eventually the cap comes completely off and just hangs off the racquet by the grip tape. I don't think I have an abnormal grip or hit the ball excetionally hard, so I don't know why this happens.

I am wondering if anybody else has a similar problem with Head or any other brand. Also, does anybody have suggestions for repairing the grip? Is super glue strong enough? I have sent a couple of racquest back to head for replacement, but it seems to take months before they get returned. Any help would be appreciated!

A couple of options:

You could build the grip up under the cap so that there is more pressure on the inside, holding the cap on. But this could get messy and will add a small amount of weight to the handle.

I would glue the butt cap. Superglue is definitely worth a try first of all because it will be the lightest. You may struggle to get a bond (and I'd test a little bit on the racket handle in case it melts the plastic.

Another option would be to remove the butt cap altogether - a radical suggestion but one that Pat Cash's coach advocates.

Finally, you could remove the cap and build up the butt using "Add-on" available on line (the strips not the heat-shrink sleeve). This stuff is excellent for building up grips and won't move on you.

Thanks for the advice Digger.

I will try super glue or epoxy first and see what happens, then move on to building the grip up if necessary.

What is the rational for Pat Cash's coach suggesting removing the butt cap all together?

Thanks
