Okay - who plays tennis and doesn't get tennis elbow?

Here's the BIG BIG TIP - STOP USING A FOREHAND OR EASTERN GRIP!!!!!

If you use a chopper / continental grip it saves you a lot of pain!

(This is based on my own recent experience and the teaching advice of the PTR - with due thanks to Clive Carrigan et al - thanks guys!)

Roger, SHAME ON YOU! You should have never been hitting an eastern on a serve anyways! Serves you right! I feel your pain too! Nothing more painful than tennis elbow!

ALL Players should use continental grip to serve. Ask 2000 pros what they hit, and you'll get 2000 of the same answer: continental!

When using eastern forehand grip, a player trying to generate spin has to curl their wrist into a very unnatural alignment which causes extreme stress on the forearm due to an exaggerated pronation, coupled with an awkward wrist alignment.

Good luck healing that up! And oh yeah, you're going to have a much better serve with that grip anyways!

Tennis elbow usually comes from either too much arm in your swing or moving the arm too fast independently in your swing.

If you are a good player against other good players, elbow could come from not being able to be in good position for some blast of a shot and hitting the ball behind you late at times.

Can also come from various other sources and the best remedy is to lay off tennis for 3 weeks, then do resistance exercises (preferably with pulleys) to build the arm back up to a healthy level.
