Has anyone have any experience with this string as far as poor durability. On the advice of someone here on this board, I have tried the Rip control 17 on the mains with Head Synthetic gut 16 on the crosses. I play with Wilson Pro Staff surge 5.1. The durability results have been really poor. I can bearly get 3 hrs. of play (4.0 player with medium swing and top spin). I'm not sure if it's the combination of strings that is not working, or the Rip Control is just not durable at all. As a next step, I'm going to try to just use Rip control on mains and crosses. I hope I can get a few more hrs. that way. Any comments are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi there,

usually the RIP Control is a very durable string.

But it's unusual to use a thin gauge like 17 for the mains and a thicker gauge like 16 for the crosses.

Normally you would use a thick gauge for the mains and a thinner gauge for the crosses, because main strings break more often.

Maybe you should try the RIP Control in 16 (1.30) for the mains and go for 17 (1.20) in the crosses.

In your case with a 16x19 stringing pattern on a midplus racket durability of the mains is definitely a problem.

Bye and good luck !

Thanks for the reply Hawkeye2,

I was just experimenting with creating my own hybrid set. I'd like to find a combination that gives me durability, feel, and enough power. I had read a post, here on this board, that by having synthetic gut crosses it will add more feel and power to the Rip control string, so I decided to give it a try. I bought a stringing machine a couple of months ago, so I have the luxury of experimenting :p
If you or anyone else have some ideas on how to accomplish my goal, I'll be willing to try. For now I'm going to try just Rip Control 17 on M & C, since I still have 2 or 3 packets left. I'll tell you, I strung one of my backup rackets with just synthetic gut, and is a HUGE difference. I will never go back to that.

Thanks again,

@elpanavic

RIP Control for the mains and synthetic gut for the crosses can be a good idea (if it feels good to you and helps your game).

So just try the 1.30 (16) RIP Control in the mains and a 1.20 (17) synthetic gut string in the crosses.

Bye

I use the rip control 16 and have found that it's a very durable string. I use head liquidmetal prestiges also so they have a dense string bed. so that will help in the life of the string. I believe if i remember correctly your stick has a pretty open string bed right? that will cause you to lose some life in the strings, esp with extra topspin like you say. again, i have found the 16 gauge rip control to be very durable, ide expect the 17 gauge to be about the same.
