I just bought this racquet and am looking for a string and ~tension to suit my style.

I am very big on getting a lot of feel out of my racquet. I never use overgrips and always use the thinnest replacement grips and no vibration dampeners to preserve the touch of the racquet.

I've used relatively thin, medium tension string before, but end up breaking them after only a couple hours of playing. My stringer put Wilson Stamina Synthetic Gut 17 on since then and I despise it.

I'd really like a string tension that doesn't hurt my natural (muscle) power and still allows me to feel the ball well. I don't know if it would be possible with my other wants, but if a one string produces more spin than another that would be good also.

Thanks for any advice you can give me. I've been reading your forum for several months and enjoy it very much. This is a very nicely kept site.

Hi McFly, what tension are you currently using with the Stamina 17? What makes you feel uncomfortable with the Stamina?

My club pro strung the Stamina at about 60 pounds the last time, but he is never exact so I really don't know.

The main problem I have with the Stamina string is the lack of feel. I like to feel myself putting spin on the ball and this string just has a dead feeling to it. Even after about an hour of playing didn't like it.

My recommendation for you is to try the Isospeed Professional at 60-64 lbs. I don't know a string that provides better touch except gut.

Thanks for the tip.

Also, I was using a friend's racquet before and it had a string I really liked on it but I forgot to find out what it was. It was blue-ish black with raised ridges running parallel with the length of the string. It made a lot of "ping" noise, but it had really good spin and control. Would you mind guessing at what it might have been? A ball park guess would be great if no exact brand comes to mind.

Thanks again.

Sounds like Babolat Razor Hi-Life.

I have had good luck with Technifibre X-One Biphase. It has excellent feel and is fairly durable. I have several customers using a hybrid with natural gut in the mains (I like Bow Brand) and X-one Biphase in the crosses and it has doubled the life of the string job but still gives them the feel that only natural gut can provide. I normally use 17g but if you don't get enough life out of them then try 16g.
