Default Full poly. String crosses 2 lbs less than mains?

Hi
I have new PDR and Tornado strings. It will be a full bed poly.
Is there any real benefit stringing crosses 2 lbs less than mains? I was thinking 54/52 or should i just do 53 for both?

My understanding is that stringing crosses at lower tension will make tension more even, since crosses are shorter than mains.

Has anyone tried both and noticed any difference in control, spin etc?

ahhhhhh I feel your pain.

First I was told string the crosses 2-3lbs less for the reason you mentioned, and this is what most pros currently do for full poly.

Now I hear we should string them the same or slightly tighter in the cross.

I think more then anything its personal.

Try 54/52 , then try
52/54

then try 53 53, or even try 48/56 why not right?

then by then there will be some new holy grail of tension to follow

As the other poster said it is definately a personal thing. I have found that many people do like the way their string bed feels if you go about 2lb. higher with the crosses than the mains. Yes the crosses are shorter so they will feel slightly stiffer due to this. However when you account for weaving crosses and friction against the mains when tension is pulled it makes sense to go a little higher to even things out. I have found it is good to actually go about 2-3lb. lower on the top 5 crosses and then 2lb. higher on the rest of the crosses. I tend to hit in the upper part of the hoop on serve so this helps me get a little more pop there.

Good luck with your new stick.
