Babolat Star 4

Evaluations of the Babolat Star 4:

Paul, December 5, 2004:

   Place of purchase: Second hand

   Date of purchase: 11/2004

   Warranty: used

   Price: approx. 2200

   Equipment:

Constant pull electronic machine, 6 fixing points, upright. Keyboard includes buttons for different tension on cross strings, knot strings, speed (3), lbs or kgs; and +/-.

   Experiences:

When I was working in a retail environment my employer bought this machine. I loved it then and I love it now. Having left that employer 6 years ago, I went back to see if they'd sell it. And now it sits back in my house. It's still as solid as ever. They've had it serviced and it works great. The difference between this and the Star is mainly the keyboard, which is much better than the dial on the Star 3. But apparently the way the machine pulls and senses the string-pull is different. I think it's the same as some of Babolats more expensive 3000/4000 series machines.
The USRSA gave it an overall score of 4.5 out of 5.
If I hadn't used this machine before I probably would have just bought a new Sensor, but having used Babolat's Star 3/4 I'd buy this machine again. If you can find one I'd highly recommend buying it, but they are rare.

Petros Biris, March 6, 2009:

   Place of purchase: France

   Date of purchase: early 2000

   Warranty: used

   Price: 2000

   Equipment:

Constant pull electronic machine, 6 fixing points, upright. Keyboard includes buttons for different tension on cross strings, knot strings, speed (3), lbs or kgs; and +/-. Plus: 2 more Sensor type clamps (quite expensive), spare of 3 electronic switches (although never needed to change them myself), all adaptors, calibration guidelines.

   Experiences:

Babolat Star 4 was (and is) the best machine in the world. Used in US Open and Wimbledon for many years, was tested under extreme conditions. I don't have to write any complaints about it as there is absolutely no negatives on this machine. I have a Grand Slam stringing experience of 23 events and this machine was the best so far. I wouldn't sell it if there wasn't the need for 2 identical machines so I need to buy 2 new ones. I would happily buy again a Star 4, for me and for pro tour stringers it is the best machine in the world.
