Klippermate

Klippermate

Evaluations of the Klippermate:

Jeff Winston, October 20, 2000:

   Place of purchase: www.klippermate.com

   Date of purchase: 10/2000

   Warranty: lifetime

   Price: $140

   Equipment:

This is a drop weight tensioner that is accurate to within + or - one pound. It is a two point fixing system that works relativeley well with slippage occuring within the last couple of strings, but was remedied by putting felt on the clamps. The system comes with two high quality floating clamps, a pair of pliers and an awl, for stringing. It is a table top style that is remarkably stable. With the purchase of the machine, they send three sets of sample strings, and a sample overgrip.

   Experiences:

Being a first time user of a stringer, it took me quite a long time to string a racket, but upon doing the second racket, it was much quicker. To get the proper tension, it gets a bit tedious to get the tensioner in the proper position, but the jaws hold well and the machine is very stable. Over-all, I was very pleased with the ease in which I was able to use and "master" the machine, and the price and portability was outstanding.

Clay Takaya, November 8, 2001:

   Place of purchase: www.klipperusa.com

   Date of purchase: 11/2001

   Warranty: lifetime

   Price: $135

   Equipment:

Table top, drop weight tensioner, floating clamps. Came with 3 sets of sample strings, all necessary tools, outstanding instruction booklet: didn't have to call company.

   Experiences:

This is a no frills, but works stringer. I've never strung a racquet before this, so there was a learning curve. The string job is first-rate and after my second racquet, I was taking less than an hour. My guess is that 30 minutes is the ultimate goal. Requires a decent amount of manual dexterity and some judgement on the drop-weight tensioner. Overall, you can't beat the price and as long as it does a professional job on my racquets I am a happy customer.

Norm, January 17, 2002:

   Place of purchase: www.klippermate.com

   Date of purchase: 6/2001

   Warranty: n

   Price: $135

   Equipment:

Table top, drop weight tensioner, floating clamps

   Experiences:

At first this machine was adequate for quick string jobs. But, unfortunately, this machine lasted about six months before being relatively useless. I have five Prince Mach 1000 rackets, and break my strings once or twice a week due to my heavy topspin and power game. Of course this machine is just about the cheapest out there, and one would not expect it to do too much. But the clamps wore down fairly quickly, and the tensioner doesn't hold at all now. If you break your strings about once a year, this machine might be for you. Otherwise, look for another model! (Which, by the way, is how I found this forum!)
Also, the bar is very short, so extra long rackets may not work. My Prince rackets barely fit on the Klippermate. My Head TiS7 doesn't fit at all!

Kim Wee, January 23, 2002:

   Place of purchase: www.klippermate.com

   Date of purchase: 01/2002

Warranty: lifetime + 30 Day Refund

   Price: $135+$115

   Equipment:

Package included stand and carrying case. String machine comes with two steel double clamps, awl and start clamp. All the necessary basics.

   Experiences:

First-time stringer, so I went through the learning process. Am still finding it slow, about 1hr per racquet. Machine is highly accurate - I could clearly feel the difference between 61 and 63 lb tension with the same string. Great deal for a beginner with a budget.

Scott Adams, February 22, 2002:

   Place of purchase: www.klippermate.com

   Date of purchase: 01/2002

   Warranty: lifetime

   Price: $135

   Equipment:

Table top, drop weight tensioner, floating clamps. Came with all the necessary tools, outstanding instruction booklet.

   Experiences:

The machine is great. In their own words, this one is for someone who strings less than three racquets a day. I string 2-3 a week and have done about 20 with it so far. My times are faster and faster and the thing is solid. I noticed the other comment about the parts wearing out and not holding. The machine and all parts (clamps, etc) has a lifetime warranty. If something fails to work, have Klippermate replace it.
When I have called Klipper for help, they have been very helpful and knowledgeable. I didn't expect the Mercedes of stringers... I expected a good solid Ford Taurus... I think they hit the mark. I would recommend one to anyone. My only complaint is that I mostly string racquetball racquets and the book is setup for tennis racquets which are strung in the opposite direction.

Reed L., February 25, 2002:

   Place of purchase: Internet

   Date of purchase: 02/2001

   Warranty: N/A

   Price: $135

   Equipment:

Klipper basic tabletop stringer. 2 point fixing. Metal visegrip smooth clamps.

   Experiences:

I like this machine but I think it has a possible weakness for control players who like to string higher than 65lb esp on certain multifilament strings, e.g. Pearl-Zone. Either the visegrip type clamps may slip, or you have to increase the clamping pressure and bruise the string, or put something like felt in there. Also the clamps may move about, especially on the central mains, resulting in uneven tension between strings. Pluck the main strings and see how the pitch varies. As the side ones are shorter, their pitch should be higher evenly, but even after pulling on the tightened strings trying to equalize the tension, in my hands anyway, the tension is more irregular than with a pro's stringer.
You usually get what you pay for, so the above annoyance is minor considering the low inital cost.
It would be nice if Klipper could make a retrofit axial string holding clamp to fit the basic machine.

Frank Nicotera, March 28, 2002:

   Place of purchase: Mail Order

   Date of purchase: 1998

   Warranty: lifetime

   Price: $145

   Equipment:

tabletop, drop-weight, free clamp system

   Experiences:

Used machine for 4 years and had no trouble with stringing a strong synthetic gut like TNT. My experience with Gamma XP Live Wire was less successful. I found that the pulling angles would sometimes cause the grommets to pull out slightly and with soft string, this would cause the frame hole to cut the string. If you hold the grommet in place, this would not occur.
I am now moving up to a spring tension stringer by Gamma.

Neil MacAndrew, July 03, 2002:

   Place of purchase: Mail Order

   Date of purchase: 1985

   Warranty: 5 years

   Price: $135

   Equipment:

tabletop, drop-weight, 2 fixing points, 2 double-string clamps

   Experiences:

I string for myself and a few friends. The machine has been trouble-free (knock on wood), but the string clamps now need replacing. This is a great machine for occasional use, and has paid for itself many times over. It's such good value, I would probably get the same model if I was in the market for a new one. The new one offers a lifetime warranty. And by the way, this is a great website.

   Price: $125 (now: $135)

   Equipment:

table top, two point mounting, floating clamps

   Experiences:

Just want to express my opinion on this machine. I've been using this machine for a quite while, and it's still working. I strung average 4-6 times a year in the last 15 years. There is a learning curve but works great for our whole family. Both myself and my wife are 15-year USTA & ALTA players which probably can give you some idea about how serious we treat the quality of stringing. And the price was very reasonable, then and now.

B. Tai, December 19, 2002:

Place of purchase: Klipper USA Mail order

   Date of purchase: 12/2002

   Warranty: lifetime

   Price: $135

   Equipment:

see above

   Experiences:

This is a beginner's evaluation.
I spent my first hour reading the manual, made sure I understand each step. Then I started the work step by step slowly by following the manual. I got the work done in 75 minutes by myself. No problem was encountered. To get the right tension by adjusting the jaw probably was the major time consuming part but it's not so bad. I'd expect to cut down stringing time to 40 minutes in the next times but don't want to rush it down to 30 minutes by sacrificing the precision and quality of the work.
The machine is stable and easy to use. It has exceeded my expectation. It comes with a life time warranty and I have no plan to change to different models.
I'll come back to report about part wearing, maintenance and other issues in the future.

Ryan, February 3, 2003:

   Place of purchase: www.klippermate.com

   Date of purchase: 01/2003

   Warranty: lifetime

   Price: $135

   Equipment:

drop weight, table top, two point mounting, flying clamps

   Experiences:

Just recently purchased this machine. I have had a little experience stringing with a friend's Eagnas table top machine that cost about twice as much. I have only used this machine a couple of times but I am really happy with it.
The metal clamps have worked much better than the Nylon ones of the Eagnas, and the tension jaws - although take some getting used to feeding the string into - actually work better than the ballbearing type. With the ballbearing ones I had to constantly adjust and retention the string to get the bar in a parallel position to the ground. I didn't have that problem with this machine. Unless you're planning to spend the money on an electronic machine, this is all the stringer you need.
I wouldn't recommend it if you have to string a lot of racquets but if you're just stringing for yourself, this machine will more than pay for itself.
I was concerned about the 2 point mounting system but based on what I have read here and other places, there doesn't seem to be a problem with racquets snapping. I would be interested to hear if someone has experienced this. It may not be as accurate as a professional machine but you have to do the cost-benefit analysis for yourself. I personally will sacrifice a couple of pounds of tension accuracy for the ability to regularly have a fresh set of strings. Also, now I can afford to buy the good strings which can make a huge difference.
One negative is that I also purchased that carrying case for $70 which I think was a mistake. There is nothing to it that you can't get from a regular sized toolbox, except the fact that it looks good.

Gabe, April 17, 2003:

   Date of purchase: 04/2003

   Warranty: lifetime

   Price: $135

   Equipment:

drop weight, table top

   Experiences:

The first time stringing took me a while. Somewhere around 90 minutes. But having the satisfaction of stringing your own racquet, having fresh strings and enjoying the fruits of your labor is well worth it. I expect the stringing time to go down as I string more and more. The ultimate goal is about 30 minutes. It worked the way it was supposed to and I haven't had a problem with it. But it does have a lifetime warranty so I'm not worried. Great stringer, great warranty, and very easy to use. Highly recommend.

Kevin Matney, April 20, 2003:

   Place of purchase: www.klippermate.com

   Date of purchase: 11/2002

   Warranty: lifetime

   Price: $135

   Equipment:

drop weight, table top, 2 fixing points, 2 floating steel clamps

   Experiences:

I purchased this stringer about 6 months ago, and have strung around a dozen racquets so far. I've found this stringer to be surpisingly stable and easy to use. I find the tension very accurate when using Prince Synthetic Gut Duraflex, but I've had a little less accuracy with Gosen OG Sheep Micro. I use a Gamma string tension gauge to measure tension after stringing. I'm not sure how much I trust the Gamma gauge, though... I usually increase the tension by +5 lbs on the string before any knot typing operation. Racquets take about an hour to string for me, as I'm pretty careful about getting the tensioner level. I wish there was a convenient (and trustworthy) device for measuring the tension while stringing, I'm not sure of the accuracy of my Gamma gauge yet. Overall, I haven't had any problems with the stringer and I would highly recommend it.

Brent, June 02, 2003:

   Date of purchase: 1986

   Warranty: lifetime

   Price: $135

   Equipment:

drop weight, table top, 2 point mounting, 2 floating steel clamps

   Experiences:

A buddy and I went in on this back in High School some 17 years ago. I eventually "bought him out" and still use the stringer today. It takes me about an hour to string. The fastest I ever got to was about 45 min. I have never broken any rackets on the court or during stringing so I don't have a concern with the two point mounting. The racket frames definitely flex when you string it but they are designed to withstand some of that.
We used mostly Leoina 66. I now use Babolat Ballistic/Strongplay because I don't have the time I used to to re-string. The grippers still work great. I have had to tighten them a few times. I added a bit of grease on areas that were showing a bit of rust. This thing has payed for itself probably 50x. Is the tension accurate? I have no idea but as I do believe it's consistent. As long as you use the same process to string every time you should get consistent results.

   Equipment:

drop weight, two-point mounting, two floating clamps (modified vise-grip pliers) and other tools provided

   Experiences:

The machine is very easy to use and came with excellent instructions. I have used it seven times in three months, including practice on several old raquets. I would recommend the Klippermate machine to other families with a couple of kids playing tennis.

I received everything needed to string my own racquets. Plus 3 free strings, a free overgrip, and great booklets that include information about how to string, affects of tension, and affetcs of string guage. Even a display that has a real sample of all the strings Klipper makes with the other brands equivalent product name.

   Experiences:

I oredered my Klipper Mate on a Sunday and received it on Tuesday! The machine machine works great and after practicing on an old racquet I have alredy strung my newest racquet and 2 for a friend. The machine works great. I have never had the clamps slip or have to over tighten them. I have never even broken a string while stringing. Great hobby and easy to learn. This is great for anyone who likes tennis and wants to string their own, and do some for friends to make a small profit. Have a question about the Klipper Mate e-mail me at ck.raf@verizon.net

   Equipment:

Tabletop, dropweight, flying clamp (Visegrip type, same set as I started with), 2 point mounting; very simple to learn always been accurate

   Experiences:

I used my little Klippermate for many many years, never broke any parts on it, has held up great, my son's got one in college now and strings for all his tennis buds. Only problem I ever had was a little slipping of the string but after I figured out you have to wrap the string around the tensioner and then through the middle, never had another slipping problem; a little alcohol on the clamps once in awhile and it's been a tremendous little machine. I string for people cheap just so they don't have to pay the outrageous pro shop prices..My wife offered to get me and upgrade so I went with a tabletop electronic..Nice..but this Klippermate will last forever.

I find the machine very easy to use. First time stringer and found the instructions (as well as the phone support) extremely helpful in getting me proficient in stringing my raquets. I have not been able to string in less than an hour but only string 2-3 times per month. Considering the price I couldn't be happier with the quality of the stringing it gives.

   Warranty: lifetime

   Price: $135

   Equipment:

Tabletop, dropweight, 2 floating clamps, 2 point mounting, all necessary tools

   Experiences:

This is an excellent little machine! For any regular player not to have one is a shame. I more than paid for this within 6 months on the racquetball courts. My son is now into tennis and I have expanded into stringing tennis racquets. Decent strings are cheap on the web and, if you do it yourself, you can easily save 50% per racquet. Tools supplied have worked very well - the occasional cleaning and or adjustment is all they've needed. If I were to buy another it would be a "deluxe" model with all the bells and whistles - at about 5 times the price of this little jewel!

   Warranty: lifetime

   Price: $145

basic model

   Experiences:

1st stringer, 1st time stringing. Instructions were written well. I have strung one old junk racquet with the strings included and then strung my Head Megablast racquetball racquet with a Tecnifibre string. Worked great, very easy to learn how to string even though my string pattern is different than shown in the instructions. Bought this machine because I like playing with 18g string & I go through them usually once per month depending on how much I play. I don't have anything to compare to, but I did do quite a lot of research before buying and I would recommend this machine for someone who doesn't string too often & just wants to learn how to do it.

   Warranty: lifetime

   Price: $125

   Equipment:

Drop weight, 2 point fixing, 2 floating clamps, portable; + long nose pliers and awl

   Experiences:

KlipperUSA were great and the machine arrived as they said. Very helpful and included some strings. I'm a first timer and this machine is all I need - I break strings monthly and could do a few rackets for friends. It's very easy to use with a good instruction booklet. For one piece, you need different lengths on each side (took me a while to figure that out!) and the holes to miss take a bit of care in deciding which one to start counting from. Those are general stringing issues but this is a really good little stringer and easy for a beginner. You really don't need anything else to start with.

Sarah Lavey, Aug 06, 2004:

table top drop weight machine with separate clamps

   Experiences:

If you're tired of paying $25 and up to have your racket strung, and have 90+ minutes of spare time to string your own, this machine is a GREAT investment. I've had mine for three months, and after one more restring it will pay for itself.
As a technical writer, I was impressed by the simplicity of the user guide. I learned the ropes very quickly. Unfortunately I'm not getting any faster. It will always take at least 90 minutes.
I also recommend buying the Klipper strings and grips. They're the same as brand names, so why pay more? Cheap is good.

   Warranty: lifetime

   Price: $145

   Equipment:

table top drop weight, two point mounting, floating clamps

   Experiences:

Ordered the stringer from Klipper and received it within a few days. There was no assembly needed. The user manual that comes with the stringer is excellent. The maual is user friendly and will help anyone string a racquet for the first time. I have been using the stringer for more than two years. The floating clamps generally hold. They need to be adjusted and sometimes pop off with certain strings. You can use the stringer almost anywhere: kitchen table, coffee table, bleachers. As a general rule, expect to take close to an hour to string a racquet with the machine. It all depends on the string used. Natural gut takes a while. I usually buy my strings directly from Klipper. They are good quality strings and don't cost as much as the name brands. The machine has been worth the price. I have saved considerable money stringing my own racquets. What used to cost me $30 at a pro shop, now costs me $8.

   Experiences:

This machine is awesome. I strung my first racquet in about 1.5 hours, without knowing anything about stringing. The manual is great, and their site has string patterns for almost any racquet. The drop weight takes a little getting used to, but is fast once you get the hang of it.
They also have great resale value... I saw one go on ebay for $120.. and it was used for multiple years. I hear these things last forever too.
It will save you a ton of money, and you can easily experiment with your strings. I used to get my racquet strung at the local tennis shop for $30, now I can string mine for $4 (with Prince Synthetic Gut w/ Duraflex from Tenniswarehouse). It will pay for itself in a few stringing.
So order your machine. It's incredibly easy to string, and you will save yourself money right away!

Stringer arrived within 4 business days. Ordered via telephone and the salesperson was very knowledgable about the product and strings. Within 3 hours of opening the box I had my racket strung. Great machine and easy to use. I should have bought this machine years ago instead of wasting my money on letting someone else string my racket. I highly recommend this stringer for DIYers.

Fast Delivery. Opened box and strung my first racquet in 3 hours. Second racquet in 55 minutes. My thirteen year old son has begun stringing with the unit.
I have not had any issues with the unit as of four racquets.
Excellent deal for the price. Highly recommended for the casual stringer.

I used this to string a racquetball racquet (E-Force Bedlam-X 190). Delivery time was good (~1 week). Assembly was quick. The user manual had good info, but is mainly for tennis racquets. Mounting the racquet was straightforward and no holes are blocked. To string the E-force Bedlam, I had to use 2 starting pins; I used the string pattern from E-Force.com. The mains were straightforward with the clamping... even though the mains were a fan pattern. However, doing the crosses was tougher. The problem is at the throat. The first 3 cross strings are about 1.25 inches apart so the floating clamps were useless; fixed clamps would have been nice. I tried to maintain tension by inserting the awl through the hold, but I may have lost a few lbs. All in all, it took me about 1.5 hours to do this job. I guess for the price, it was ok. However, if I had to do it all over again, I would purchase a model with fixed clamps. 1 fixed and 1 floating would have sufficed.
Anyone have tricks to do the crosses (strings about 1" apart)? Please let me know. Thanks.

I have now owned this machine for 16 years and counting. My first string job took me five hours to do. After the tenth string job I've been averaging 20-25 minutes per racket. This machine has paid off after owning it for a year. It's a good machine for those who are not too picky about tension +1 or -1 lbs.

The mate works. I used it for badminton and tennis. It's a bit short for modern tennis racquets now, and it was not designed for badminton either - the screws can hurt the frame so it needs more cushioning. It's a simple equipment, works well, but over priced (don't they have stringer "made in China" now?) for what it is. Having had it for 15 years with 100s of racquets strung, I think it's an excellent machine for recreational players.

   Warranty: lifetime

   Price: $135

   Equipment:

table top, drop weight, two point mounting, full metal clamps, awl, pliers/cutter, starting pin, 3 string samples, stringing pattern book, stringing guide

   Experiences:

Delivery time was one week. Very easy assembly (almost none). Very good manual, clear stringing instructions. Very simple machine (no special features). Easy to handle. Mounting and clamps seem to be secure (only one racquet strung so far), I did not face any issues. Strung my first tennis racquet today. Chose Klippermate due to excellent feedback in this forum and others, and lifetime warranty, even though it is a bit more expensive compared to a similar machine from Eagnas (Hawk-10). I could have probably bought the Hawk-26 for the same price, but more complex mechanism means a greater need for maintenance. I was deterred from buying Eagnas due to large amount of negative comments online, and their website is all messed up. No point in having a cheap machine if it arrives without a few required parts and customer service is terrible. I think the lifetime warranty (including clamps) and good customer support is worth the extra bucks.
My first racquet took about 1.5 - 2 hours. Using this drop weight without a ratchet mechanism did not seem to be as difficult as I thought, I do not think a ratchet would have saved more than 5-10 minutes. Most of the time was spent reading instructions carefully, making sure a weave was not missed, untangling the string and learning to tie knots. I was considering an electronic machine (SP e-stringer), but I think a drop weight is constant pull and more accurate and does not need calibration. I hope to build some indicator into the machine to get the horizontal position more accurately, I wish they had simple markings and levels built into it.

Got the "blemished" price with no blemishes. Saved 10 bucks there. I've strung 4 racquets so far. I'm new to stringing, my first racquet took 4 hours, second 2 hours, 3rd and 4th 1.5 hours. Company claims that stringing can be done in 30 minutes, which I believe is possible, but only if accuracy is sacrificed. The tensioning arm is just too difficult to get horizontal each time, so arm has to come way up, string slackened or shortened, and tension reapplied. It just seems to me that a ratchet or clutch system would save a TON of time. Also, the clamps are very heavy, so they can't sit on top of the string bed out of the way and readily accessible for the next clamping. They're also hard to open. They're actually lock wrenches that have been adapted for stringing.
I like the string jobs so far, but not the annoyances. Could be much simpler I'm sure. For an extra $50 bucks you could have 6-point mounting, lighter clamps, and the clutch system of the Silent Partner Swing. Seems quite worth the extra money in the long run. Or for the same money as the Klippermate you could go with a couple of different company's ratchet models.
Delivery was very fast. Manual was okay, but still a little vague. Videos videos videos please!! Thank you Silent Partner website for the videos. Helped a lot.

   Equipment:

Table top, drop weight tensioner, floating clamps. Came with 7 sets of sample strings, all necessary tools, outstanding instruction booklet

   Experiences:

The machine was very easy to assemble, only requiring about 3 minutes. The manual is terrific and really explains the stringing process. My first test racquet was my old Prince CTS Approach 90 (14x18). Since this was my first racquet on the Klippermate, it took a little while to get the hang of the machine. But, I ended up finishing in a little over 2 hours. My next few racquets (Babolat Pure Control 98 & Wilson nSix-one) have been around 1.5 hours. I feel you can gain some speed the more your string with the Klippermate, but feel that 30 minutes is not obtainable. The clamps are easy to use and do a good job of holding the strings securely. Overall satisfied. Great stringer for the money!

Delivery was within 2 days, assembly was quick. The machine is well built and will likely last a life time. The provided manual is worth its weight in gold. I have never strung before. I read through the manual on Friday night and started stringing Saturday morning. One hour and twenty minutes later, my racquet was done and I was off to the courts to check it out. The first racquet I worked with was a new Dunlop M-Fil 400. I know it's advised that you practice with an older racquet but all went well with no problems.
I highly recommend this stringer to first timers. Ease of use, an intelligently written and illustrated training manual all contribute to a successful experience.
Klipper provided a few sets of strings only one of which I would consider using. If you choose this machine, it would be best to buy a reel or two of string with it and take advantage of the 10% discount on strings and accessories that they offer.

I have strung about 10 raquets and had the machine about 4 months. The first time, it was about 2 1/2 hours to string. The second and thirds were actually longer. The next three were shorter, but very not what I would call easy. The last one I strung last night and it only took probably about 1 1/2 to 2 hours, but it seemed much easier as I did not have to second guess myself as much. It was very straightforward. The machine is fairly easy to use and does a standup job. I am not sure I am stringing at 60 lbs, but I am sure that each string job seems to be as consistent as the next. I am very pleased with my stringer and I would like a Neos 1000, but until my ship docks with $1200 on it, I will just continue to enjoy my Klippermate.
The machine was delivered in just 2-3 days and the service was really good. They even helped when I had questions on how to string a racquet that was not listed. The clamps seem to hold just fine, but you need to clamp them as specified, (deep into the jaws), for them to hold well. No big problems with hole blockage (minor nuisance sometimes). One of the raquets slipped out of the device (you need to make sure it is secure prior to starting). I am completely satisfied with my purchase and highly recommend the Kippermate and Klipper USA.
The reason I would choose another stringer is just because of the bells and whistles, not the quality or support, but, yes, I would choose another if I had the money.

After racquet stringing cost rose to $40 at our club, I decided to get a used Klippermate on eBay. Should payout in 2 string jobs... First stringing was straightforward. I started at the "cocktail hour", around 5:00pm. With numerous breaks, my first racquet was completed around 8:00pm. My problems were numerous; I didn't know how to tie the knots, and had to research knots online. The racquet rotation was very squeaky, so I had to lube the rotation point with MoSi2 grease. One of the wingnuts for the racquet hold-down was missing, so I had to run to OSH for a replacement. The actual stringing time was 1.5 hrs. I believe 1 hr will be achievable, easily. I'm totally happy (so far) with this purchase.

Fast delivery, within a week. I bought it because I read some of the postings that said that it is friendly for beginners. Well, I found stringing not easy to learn. It took me about 5 hours to string the first racquet - I had to redo it a few times, as I kept skipping the holes. It would be helpful to put the machine on a tool stand, by the way. When you work from a desktop, you have the strings all over the places, dragging whatever is on the table, coffee mug, wrenches, you name it. It even goes under the table to tie up your feet. Frankly, I almost wove myself into it.
Suggestion for the manufacturer: The vertical clamp pads could be made of a harder material, because they bend easily. The flying clamps should be designed to open wider to clamp the crosses towards the lower 1/4 of the racquet, as the space between lines widens there.
Suggestion for the first time stringer: It would be a good idea to watch someone use this equipment first. There is a manual, but I'd watch it. Let the person talk you through.
Other than that, this is a sufficient equipment for me. The racquets strung with this Klippermate machine really feel good. The professional coach who had strung my racquets never did so well. I am going to save his money now. Hope this helps. Merry Christmas!

I finally strung my oversized Prince racquet with the Klippermate. I tried to follow the manual but found it difficult so I got help from my friend who is very familiar with racquet stringing. With his help, I got thru it in approximately three hours. This is my first string job and I was very happy with the results. I would suggest that a good tool for beginners would be a video showing how to string using the Klippermate. I am happy with the accuracy of the drop weight and look forward to stringing my second racquet by myself.

Great starter machine. Built strong and durable. It was my first machine, I have strung about 15 racquetball racquets and decided I really need a fixed clamp machine because of the fan pattern. If you're doing tennis racquets just for yourself and/or a few friends this machine will do a good job at a low cost. I'm selling mine, email me at jeff34951(at)gmail.com if you're interested.

Delivery was one week, assembly was easy and it arrived with manual, awl, pliers, and sample strings. The machine is relatively easy to use. I have had the clamps slip on me, and when I adjust them to prevent slippage, then strings get pinched. As a result, I have had a few strings break on me before finishing the job. However, the stringer is well worth the cost, because I have completed approximately 50 times and have saved a ton of money by stringing my own sticks.

In less than 1 week I received my machine :)
The machine was so simple to assemble, just had to put the weight on the rod and I was set! The machine did come with a manual very clear to read! Life time warranty is the best feature, it has other than the steel clamps. The machine is so simple to understand, even my friend who has never played tennis understood what to do! The clamps hold extremely tight but do not flatten the strings. The mounting system is very firm and does not block any holes, it just blocks the clamps from getting close to racket ends. NO problems only after my 7th stringing job I had to clean the jaws of the string holder because it was slipping but it was simple to do with the instructions given by Klippermate! I did not get any spare parts because there is no need when they replace everything for free forever. I would choose another model from Klippermate, the one with fixed clamps, to reduce any tension loss.

   Place of purchase: Elgin, Illinois

   Date of purchase: 2009

   Warranty: Lifetime

   Price: $145

   Equipment:

Table top, drop weight tensioner, 2 point mounting, floating clamps. Came with starting pin, an awl, pliers, a locking mechanism for turn table, instruction manual, string patterns, string catalog, and a goodie bag of strings and sample over grip.

   Experiences:

Quick and fast pickup from warehouse.
Very easy set up time to assemble.
Included an instruction/owner's manual.
Special feature is its portability and compactness.
Handling is simple, no frills. You get a basic stringing machine.
Floating clamps work fine. There are instructions to take care of adjusting and cleaning of the clamps to prevent tension loss and the like. The clamps are adequate. You have an unlimited lifetime warranty.
The mounting system can be a bit tricky with wide body/aerodynamic frames and does block some visibility when doing the mains at the head and the yoke. I taped the 2 mounting screws with masking tape to prevent string contact. It lacks the side reinforcements of other stringers, but again it's designed for the simple consumer not a true commercial grade. I was successful in stringing very large shaped tennis racquets (Prince O3 series & Wilson n1 Force), basic squash, racquetball (E Force), and looking forward to the challenge of stringing badminton racquets. Wondering if I'd need to get the different drop weight, mounting vises, and floating clamps. And if you ever are confronted with an obstacle with grommets, string SNAFU, they give you all the tools for successfully stringing your racquet. Otherwise give them a call for a solution. I am very content in this one, but all the other models are nearly 5 times more. So, the value on the Klippermate basically pays for itself.

Still going strong after almost 20 years. Need to have factory replace floating clamps. The first set wore out about 10 years ago and they replaced them with no issues. I had to pay for one way shipping though. I string about 40-50 rackets a year and I play a lot. String job quality no different from the higher priced machines. Once you get the hang of a particular type of racket and string < 30 min is pretty easy. My average is about 25 min for a midsize.

Received quickly ready to go in the yellow Klippermate case/box.
It was my first time I ever strung a tennis racquet so I used the manual and the YouTube for guidance. It's very easy to use and strings tennis racquets well. First time took about 1.5 hours but after a few test runs I can now do it in under an hour. Hardest part is the knots.
Highly recommended for anyone getting into stringing as a DIY at home. Probably not the best for stringing natural gut, and polys are a bit trickier. Nylon and syn gut are easy.

Mounting system works fine. Tensioner is also fine and will hold most strings except a smooth monofilament poly. For those, you need to wrap the string around the tension clamp twice and it does not slip at all.
Bought the machine mainly to string my own racquets, but I string for a couple of friends as well. I tend to cut my strings out before they break so I've strung a couple hundred racquets on the Klippermate since 2006 and it's still going strong.
It's not the fastest - but I can get one out in 25-30 minutes most of the time.
I did break one clamp a couple years ago and it was replaced under warranty immediately - can't complain about that.

   Experiences:

The delivery time from order to arrival was not more than 3 or 4 days. The assembly of the machine was very easy. The user manual is excellent. The machine is very stable and I am using it on a work bench that I already had available. The machine is very easy to learn to use and is easy to use; according to Klipper the machine has a 30-day money back guarantee, is the only stringing machine made in the USA, is the most accurate stringer made, has an unlimited lifetime guarantee on the machine and tools, comes with a complete tool kit including lifetime guarantee on the steel string clamps, easy to follow step-by-step instructions, stringing patterns and toll-free technical support by their racquet specialists and comes with a free string and grip package!

The clamps are very easy to adjust but I might add that they come from the factory already adjusted so that you don't have to worry about that. They hold the string very securely without squeezing it. The mounting system works easily and securely and does not block any holes. I have strung three rackets thus far and have not experienced any problems with the machine or tools at all. This is my first machine and I bought it to string my own rackets but very quickly I have found that many of my tennis playing friends have asked me to string their rackets as well. It took me about two hours to string my first racket and I did have to call technical support a couple of times not about the machine but about stringing techniques and guidance and the folks at Klipper were extremely helpful and were able to assist me with my questions in an efficient and friendly manner. My time to string has been getting better and the last racket I strung (the third one) took me about an hour and a half and I can see where eventually I should be able to get into the one hour range fairly easily. It gets a bit easier each time and I learn a few tips each time I string a racket and that helps as well. I was amazed when I played with the first racket I strung; I can truthfully say that it was probably the best stringing job I have played with and to think that I have been paying top dollar for others to string my rackets in the past. The racket played beautifully and I have been hitting with it for a couple of weeks now and it continues to perform well! I am ecstatically happy with the Klippermate M-100 stringing machine and the Klipper company. I have subsequently purchased additional stringing supplies from them and price, delivery and quality of the merchandise is always excellent in all respects!

Do not recall the details. After >15 years, everything still works with the original parts and some dust and wear and tear. I have probably done 50 badminton rackets and hundreds of tennis ones. I haven't had any problem at all. Honestly, I am looking for a reason to upgrade, but cannot really find one. Klipper should design a simple add-on to this to make it a six-pointer. I am sure everyone out there would spend the extra $50 for that. I don't believe the made in USA bs but wherever it's made the quality is great.

My family got the machine for me because I broke too many strings.
The problem is that I called about 3 months ago and asked for a free replacement and was denied because I do not have a receipt. The rep says that the name of the order is not in the system, and that they do not keep customer's name and their information after a certain date.
I am going to call Klippermate again and ask them why they replaced a clamp from someone else who posted on this forum and not mine. I will keep you all posted of the result of my second inquiry.

   Equipment:

Machine came ready to go and was very easy to use even for a 1st timer.
POSITIVES
- Very easy to use.
- Very durable. (I've strung over 50 racquets already and it still mounts racquets great and gives fairly accurate results)
- Accurate tension. When I string it is within 2 lbs of the Gamma tension tester and the Gamma tension tester is also within 2 lbs of a professional string job done on an electronic and very expensive Prince stringer.

NEGATIVES
- The bolt/nut on the pivot that holds the base to the black bar racquet holder, has worn the base a bit. This makes the stringer a bit loose. I have to tighten the bolt really tight but this doesn't affect the accuracy and usability of the machine - it's just annoying.
- I wish Klippermate made a 6 point fixed clamp version

This is a great entry level stringer which is hard to go past.
