Played half the time indoors on hard surface and half outside on har tru clay. Because of the way the strings grabbed the ball, I felt like I had to flatten out my strokes. Perhaps it was 48 lbs tension, but the feel was a little trampoline-like. Loopy swings launched the ball well long. Spin was very good. My backhand slice was the best it has been in a long time. Spin was tight and the shot was coming off the racquet with authority. Sweet spot hits felt excellent-- I could feel the strings cupping, stretching, and snapping the ball back. Off center hits were less forgiving I felt. Playing on the clay was better than the hard courts for me because the balls would sit up better for striking a flatter ball. I would have liked to try a thinner gauge.

Octo-Twist has a softer feel than RPM Blast. Not as much power or pop but the dwell time is longer with Ytex. More comfortable than the Luxilon Savage White, Alu Power and Alu Power Rough, and also Solinco Tour Bite. Spin was really good and held its own against all my favorite strings. If I were to play this string again it would have to be a thinner gauge. An 18 gauge would be great.

I play mostly indoor on hard courts. No worries hitting out. The ball more times than not finds the court. The harder I swing the better the string responds.

SPPP was my favorite string until I tested this one. The spin and control are amazing. Plays similar to MSV Focus-Hex but I like this better. Can be a little rough on the arm. Currently stringing at 50 lbs but think I will try going down a few lbs to soften the feel.

Stringing was typical of a poly string. Strung it 10% below normal synthetic gut. Very stiff and wire-like. Kinks easily but not as badly as Big Banger or Poly Plasma. Also gave a very slight stretch compared to the two mentioned. All of the testing was done on indoor hard courts with a moderately fast surface. Balls were Pro Penn, Wilson US Open and Dunlop Championship. Broke strings on a hard return of serve after about 10 hours of play. Performance went a little dead toward the end of the string life.

Compared to Luxilon Big Banger and Signum Pro Poly plasma 1.23 the test string had a slightly softer feel although it seemed a little harder on the arm and shoulder. Very comparable to the Poly Plasma.

Initially the string played well, but was so aggravating because it broke so easily. I would be lucky to make it through 1 match. Not easy to string because the multifilament would fray and get stuck in the frame holes.
Would not buy it again. |
