String Topspin Cyber Black 1.23
Test Conditions Tension Racquet
55/53 lbs Head YouTek Speed Elite (MP, 16/19)
Absolute Rating Durability Power Control Feel Comfort Spin Tension Stability
 (>3 hrs.)
Strung in one piece without problems.
Played on clay with new or almost new balls from various brands.
The string provided very good control throughout the test. Fast and slow, drop shots, angles, everything worked well. Feel and spin were there but not extraordinary.
The string lost a significant amount of tension over time, which however did not affect the playability too much. Unfortunately the string is not really comfortable. I felt some pain in my arm already after 20 minutes of play, which got worse with increasing playing time.
Conclusion: Solid control string with otherwise average playability.

String Tecnifibre X.Code 16
Test Conditions Tension Racquet
54/53 lbs Head YouTek IG Speed Elite (MP, 16/19)
Absolute Rating Durability Power Control Feel Comfort Spin Tension Stability
 (1 hrs.) n.a.
No problems during stringing.
The string came off the stringer quite stiff, so it should be strung at least 2 kg less. I used 1.5 kg less and it was still too stiff (record DT 40 at 24.5/24 kg!).

Played indoors on carpet with new Dunlop Fort balls.

The string felt very nice after a short break-in period. I had good depth control, very good feedback and great control. However due to the stiffness, the sweetspot seemed decreased.

I can't say much more about the string because suddenly it broke after approx. 1 hour of play in the center of the stringbed. I do have a high string consumption but for indoors play this is a bad value, not to mention the price. Thus I cannot recommend this string.

String Solinco Tour Bite 16L
Test Conditions Tension Racquet
55/53 lbs Head YouTek Speed Elite (MP, 16/19)
Absolute Rating Durability Power Control Feel Comfort Spin Tension Stability
 (4 hrs.)
I received the string as a free test set from Solinco.
No problems during stringing. Strung in one piece.
Played on clay with new or almost new balls from various brands.
I liked the string from the start. It provided superb control and good feel. Despite the good power I never had the feeling of losing control.
The string provided good spin potential, which was maintained until the end.
Tension stability was also very good. I've rarely seen such a good tension maintenance in other polys.
Only drawback is the lack of comfort. I noticed a slight pain in my arm already during the first hour, which got worse the longer I played this string.
Unfortunately I cannot use it for myself due to the comfort issue, but I can highly recommend it for players who don't have a sensitive arm.

String Pro's Pro Lethal 8 1.24
Test Conditions Tension Racquet
55/53 lbs Head YouTek Speed Elite (MP, 16/19)
Absolute Rating Durability Power Control Feel Comfort Spin Tension Stability
 (>3 hrs.)
Strung in one piece on a drop weight machine. Little stretch. Stringing was a bit tedious because the string had strong recoil memory and I needed to be really careful to avoid kinks.

Played with new or used-once balls from Dunlop and Tretorn.

The string provided good power from the start without sacrificing control. Feel and control were okay but not outstanding. The Lethal 8 provided good spin and did not lose its spin potential with time.
Tension stability was quite poor. I noticed this during the third hour of play.
I had problems with comfort. During the third hour, my shoulder and arm started to hurt. At the same time, the string lost tension, feel and control. After around 3.5 hours the string broke.

Conclusion: Average poly. I liked it better than the Lethal 5 during the first two hours. I can recommend this string only if you are looking for a low-cost string and don't have a sensitive arm.

String Pro's Pro Lethal 5 1.24
Test Conditions Tension Racquet
55/53 lbs Head YouTek Speed Elite (MP, 16/19)
Absolute Rating Durability Power Control Feel Comfort Spin Tension Stability
 (>3 hrs.)
Strung in one piece on a drop weight machine. The string stretched a lot for a poly. No problems during stringing. After stringing, the stringbed stiffness dropped 3 DT points within 24 hours (no playing).
Played with new or used-once balls from Dunlop and Head.
Especially during the first two hours of play, the string felt quite stiff. I would recommend to string it 2 lbs lower compared to currently available new generation polys.
Feel was okay for a poly but I never had full access to control.
Spin and power were good and also the tension was maintained pretty well except for the initial drop after stringing.
Unfortunately I usually break polys of this gauge within 3 hours, and this string was no exception.
Conclusion: Average poly which could only be interesting due to its price.

String Target Concept 3 HLX Twisted 1.23
Test Conditions Tension Racquet

Absolute Rating Durability Power Control Feel Comfort Spin Tension Stability
 (>2 hrs.)
I received two sets of this string from Tengo as an alternative to the Kirschbaum Helix (probably that's why it has HLX in its name).
Strung in one piece on a drop weight machine without problems. The string was quite soft and stretched more compared to the Helix.
During play I instantly noticed that this string has no similarities with the Kirschbaum Helix except for its profile. Which is not negative at all. The string played very soft for a poly but still precise. Excellent comfort for a poly, plus good spin, control and feel.
Only drawback was the durability. Both sets broke within two hours of play.
Conclusion: Highly recommendable string if you are not a notorious string breaker. I'll definitely try it again in 1.28 mm.

String Kirschbaum Helix 1.25
Test Conditions Tension Racquet
57/55 lbs Head Flexpoint Fire (MP, 16/19)
Absolute Rating Durability Power Control Feel Comfort Spin Tension Stability
 (>6 hrs.)
I had tested this string in 2009 in a blind test and now I'm also providing my review under its real name.

Strung two sets on a drop weight machine at two different tensions - 26/25 and 25/24 kg. No problems during stringing. Rather little stretch for a poly.
Played indoors on carpet with various pressurized balls from Wilson and Dunlop, new or briefly used.
I was very happy with this string from the start. Best feel and control that I've had for a long time. Good spin and good power, just great. Tension stability (measured with ERT300) was also good.
Unfortunately I felt some pain in my arm after only one hour of play and it got worse and worse. Thus I terminated the test after 6 hours and tried the softer tension. Unfortunately my arm kept hurting so my conclusion is that this string lacks comfort. I stopped playing with the second set after 2 hours. At the softer tension I was also happy playability-wise, but I liked the tighter strung version a bit better overall.
I was not able to tell the durability due to my arm problems, but the strings did not show any significant wear when cutting them out, so I believe the durability is good.
It's a pity I cannot play this string but I can highly recommend it to players who don't have any arm problems.

55/53 lbs Head YouTek Speed Elite (MP, 16/19)
Absolute Rating Durability Power Control Feel Comfort Spin Tension Stability
 (>5 hrs.)
Strung on a drop weight machine in one piece without any problems.
Unfortunately I could not get used to this string. Although control was okay, I did not get a real feel for it.
Tension stability and durability stood out but the remaining characteristics were average.
After 5 hours of play I cut out the strings since I felt increasing pain in my arm.

String Mantis Comfort Synthetic 16
Test Conditions Tension Racquet
58/56 lbs Head YouTek Speed Elite (MP, 16/19)
Absolute Rating Durability Power Control Feel Comfort Spin Tension Stability
 (5 hrs.)
Strung on a drop weight machine in one piece. No problems during stringing, strung up like a synthetic gut.
Played on clay with new or almost new balls from different brands.
I instantly had good control and feel. The string provides good power without scattering or being springy, which I liked.
I would like to point out the durability which was extraordinary for this type of string. Also the tension stability was above average for multifilaments.
Conclusion: It does not reach up to top multifilaments like Tecnifibre X-One Biphase but it's still a good choice due to its good price/performance ratio.

String Gamma TNT2 Touch 16  blind test
Test Conditions Tension Racquet
57/55 lbs Head Flexpoint Fire (MP, 16/19)
Absolute Rating Durability Power Control Feel Comfort Spin Tension Stability
 (6 hrs.)
Strung in one piece on a drop weight machine without problems.

Played indoors on carpet with new or almost new balls.

The string provided great feel, control, comfort and also spin. Tension stability was also remarkable for a multifilament. After an initial drop after stringing and within the first hour of play the tension remained on a constant level until the end.

In order to compare the durability with other strings I'd need to play it again during summer on clay. But even indoors most of the other multifilaments I've tried break significantly quicker.

Conclusion: There are certainly better strings concerning feel, comfort and control. But still the string is very interesting for me because it does not have any weakness. Given that the price is okay I will certainly test it again on clay and maybe even continue playing it.
