Default Völkl Cyclone set vs reel

Does anyone noticed any difference between Volkl Cyclone retail sets and the string cut from 200m reel ?

I ask that because two weeks ago I bought 2 retail sets an string my two Angell TC95. I was in heaven, I thought I found the Holly Graal of string and I bought one reel of Volkl Cyclone . Yesterday I strung one of my TC95 with the string cut from reel and from the first hit I noticed some annoying difference. The crisp feel is missing, the string feel much dull compared with retail set, the control is down.

Same tension , same machine. Both ( the retail sets and the reel ) was bought from same trusted source.

Thank you,
Radu

I've used reels and sets and there's no difference as far as I'm concerned. Why would there be? A set is just a reel cut into pieces.

I'm glad that you didn't notice any difference. Unfortunately this not happened in my case. I cut and gave one string from reel to one who sold me both ( the sets and the reel ) and he confirm the big difference. I already switch to set.

Thanks

You might have had a rogue batch, but having used sets and reels over the years, I've never noticed any difference.

I know this is old, but maybe it was a different gauge?

Old thread.... I know....

I think that you bought an old reel. Polys gets quite bad with age. A 1 year old reel doesent even compare with a fresh reel.

An old thread (again) but wanted to follow up on this; do reels really go bad or change that much over time? It was my understanding that if kept dry and cool, string reels should maintain their lifespan for some time...
