Babolat Star 3

Babolat Star 3

Evaluations of the Babolat Star 3:

Albert Lee, October 31, 2000:

Place of purchase: Tennis Machines, Inc.

   Date of purchase: 01/1999

   Warranty: u

   Price: $4000

   Equipment:

Electronic constant pull "Load Cell" tensioner, 6 point frame support, fixed diamond dusted clamps, adjustable stand, digital tension readout. Definitely a high-end machine as seen on the Pro Tour.
Now replaced by the new Babolat Sensor Machine (Sep 2000).

   Experiences:

Excellent overall machine. Frame support arms do not fit some super sized frames. Very fast and repeatable stringing.
Special features: Knot Over Tension Button, Kevlar button, 3 pull speeds. No included tools.
Problems: Replaced motor relay on main board. No other problems.

Michael Ludwig, October 10, 2001:

   Place of purchase: private

   Date of purchase: 09/2001

   Warranty: u

   Price: $4000

   Equipment:

Upright, constant pull electric machine, top of the line 6 point mounting system, V-shaped supports coated with non-abrasive plastic, 360-degree dual action diamond dusted swivel clamps. Includes a scale for measuring string to the half inch, full cover, height adjustment from 41 to 47 inches, 360-degree racquet rotation, tension indicator marked in lbs. and Kgs. from 10 to 90 lbs

   Experiences:

This machine is clearly one of the best and most popular machines out in the US, and sets the standard for electric machines. The clamps on this machine are superior to any other dual action swivel clamps, and function perfectly when clean. They need just minimal pressure due to the diamond dusting. The "Air Support" mounting system is another one of its attributes, and is the most solid out there with its ability to automatically level the racquet. The tensioner, like everything else, is very smooth and quiet. One thing I really like about the Star 3, is its portability. It can be taken just about everywhere, due to its low weight and compact size. Calibrating this machine couldn't be much easier, and can be done with ease. With a few adapters, just about every racquet on the market can be strung on this machine. As said by the USRSA, the Star 3 is the "Best value in an electronic machine, dollar for dollar". I believe this to be very true, and have no doubts about it. The Star 3 is a great machine, and I look forward to stringing on it for years to come.

   Warranty: used

   Equipment:

Electronic tensioner, 6-point mounting system, upright, two high quality swivel clamps

   Experiences:

This is a very good machine. It is extremely solid and simple to use. The gripper and clamps work perfectly. My machine is about 10 years old and still works like new. I have strung countless rackets on it without ever having to replace anything. However, like some of the reviews say, some oversize heads do not fit with the 6-points, and instead only 4-points can be used. These rackets include the Head i. and Ti. oversized series. Because of the "peanut shaped" head the main strings will have to be pulled two at a time to keep the racket from warping. However, this is actually quicker and doesn't do much harm to the string job. This is the best machine I have ever used and I've used a great many from this forum. If you are starting a small business like a pro-shop or even a department store stringing, this is the machine to buy.

Electronic tensioner, 6-point mounting system

   Experiences:

I have strung on various Star 3 machines around the country as well as other machines, like Prince, Alpha and Gamma, and the Star 3 is the best ever. While it has its problems, mainly because of hard use, it is the most rock solid machine I have ever used. The way frames fit on the machine is very stable because of the 6 point system and because of the fact that one can do squash rackets to super oversized rackets. The clamping system is very stable as well and allows one do easily do fan string patterns. Overall, I am so impressed with this machine that whenever I have to string on something else it is a dissapointment.
