MS 700
MS 700

Evaluations of the MS 700:

Dan Silverstein, August 13, 2001:

Place of purchase: Machines Shop Stringing

   Date of purchase: 07/2001

   Warranty: 5 years

   Price: $299

   Equipment:

Drop weight tabletop model, 2 single action fixed clamps, 6 point mounting, 360° rotation

   Experiences:

Machine would be a good value if it came with better string clamps. I found the string clamps to be impossible to work with without modification. No matter how much you fiddled with the clamp adjustment the strings would either slip, or if you tightened enough to hold the strings without slipping, the strings would get very indented and damaged. The teeth on the string clamps were crooked or warped and thus gripped the strings unevenly. After grinding the clamps myself and using fine grit sandpaper as inserts in the clamps I could get them to work to my satisfaction. Except for the clamps, the machine works fine.

Mike DeBoard, October 04, 2001:

Place of purchase: Machines Shop Stringing

   Date of purchase: 05/2001

   Warranty: 5 years

   Price: $299

   Equipment:

Drop weight tabletop model, 2 single action fixed clamps, 6 point mounting

   Experiences:

I've owned this machine for about 5 months now and have used it about twenty times. So far it has performed flawlessly. I find the 6 point mounting system to be much more secure than the two point systems I've used in the past. I've also had experience using the Klippermate and entry level E stringer. I have found the MS700 to be much better built. Unlike the previous reviewer, I have had no problems with the clamps. Although, I did take care to be sure the clamps were adjusted properly. I made a small mark on the clamp's adjustment screws to allow me to repeat settings for favorite strings. For the price paid I find it very difficult to criticize the unit. We'll have to see how it holds up over the long haul. So far I have nothing but praise.

Greg Raven, May 31, 2002:

Place of purchase: Machines Shop Stringing

   Date of purchase: 01/2002

   Warranty: 5 years

   Price: $299

   Equipment:

Drop weight tensioner with clutch, tabletop model, 2 fixed clamps, 6 point air suspension

   Experiences:

I bought this machine after trying a KlipperMate, which actually worked well but I felt that I was not getting the tension I wanted from the flying clamps. The MS 700 (aka Czech Tension) seemed much heavier duty, but on tensioning the string, everything seems to bend. Adjusting the clamps seems tricky, and even when adjusted, they bend a lot as you release the string from the tension head. I think I prefer the two-point mounting system of the KlipperMate: the MS 700 side supports seem always to be in the way, or catching a loop of string. After about a dozen string jobs, I am able to get a quality stringing out of the MS 700, but if I was doing more than my own racquets, I'd sell my car and buy a Babolat Sensor and get it over with. (Well, maybe I'd try a Silent Partner e.Stringer first :-) ).

Ryan Goring, September 17, 2009:

   Place of purchase: Craigslist

   Date of purchase: 04/2009

   Warranty: used

   Price: $50

   Equipment:

Tabletop, drop weight tensioner, 2 fixed clamps, 6 point mounting

   Experiences:

This is a great machine for the price I paid. The tension is accurate, a bit tricky at first on mounting but it became easier after that.
Adjusting the clamps and mounting to suit your needs was very simple to do.
It is a bit rough on getting access to some holes that are blocked by the mounting but it became easier as I progressed with it.
No problems with it and loving it.
Thank you Jesus for this great find.
